I was playing the irish in VI. I think their troops suck, but im fairly experienced so i managed to get all ireland for myself. All was goig fine, i managed, more or less, to keep the vikings at bay. I was developing my five provinces, managed to get that island beteewn ireland and british mainland, great. Them i saw an opening to get some rebel provinces in the mainland. I went for it, got two territories, just fine. But then something unexpected happend. The saxons died out (no heir). I thought, great, more easy land for me... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But then, when i moved a ship to get those lands, i noticed that all that was red was now blue http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
The way i reckon things, the mercians had a royal marriage and the crowns were united. The result? Now the mercians have all the south of england, rolled over the welsh and the northumbrians, rolled over me with armys of five or six full stacks and i forsee that the scots and picts will soo follow. I have full naval superiority so they will never get to ireland, but then again i don't have the manpower to chalenge them in the mainland. So far all i was able to do to retaliate was some costal raiding like the vikings. I destroy some strutures and i get the hell out of there. But this is becoming frustrating as i don't know what to do...
If i only had a stack of arbalesters CMAA and Chiv knights... Then they would pay...

That is nice. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Try to get an alliance with the Mercians. Trade with them and build up your forces in Ireland. Then when you feel strong enough you can engage them in England.
Or you could try to eliminate the Mercians through a assassin rush, then grab their lands as they turn rebel, or become yours if you manage to marry one of their princesses.

Assassin rush huh? I've limited myself to not doing that, but desperate times require desperate measures...

If you eliminate the factions heirs and then get the King to marry one of your Daughters, then when he finally pegs it you can gain most of those lands for yourself.
Best of luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I dudes, im back, it seems i wasn't able to eliminate their royal family. The blue pigs entrenched themselves deep in border fort rich area... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
But i did not have to kill every prince. I manage to kill 2 kings and the heir influence got pretty low (3 crowns i think). Then it it me, i looked into his stacks to see the generals loyalty. It was pretty low as i expected. What gave me this idea was my own private civil war (thats what you get when your troops get restless while you build up you little island. I wiped out the rebels.
Seeing the low influence of the king i figured: "if could take some of his territories... perhaps that 6 star champion of his will decide not to take orders anymore".
I invaded and conquered 4 territories in 1 turn (real easy since i had been building up my troops (the best i had) and had an amazing good set of generals (it seems the computer gives the loser guy a brake and distributes stars more generously) including a 5 star general wich i buffed up to 7 with titles.
As i had forseen, the mercians went into a big nasty civil war but ended up with a four star king. It was ok because, by then, i had snatched up a few more territories and they were no more the economic power house (i was). Next i had a BIG battle (3450 of mine against 5430 of his) in wich i had my 7 star general commanding. The Mercian commander was no other than their king. The battle was pretty even but a well placed armoured spearman unit ended the kings life and they routed.
I thought it was over but they had an heir... wich i had assassinated the next turn. I rather would have killed the little bugger in battle but i decided he would not have a warriors death (yes im this mean) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Now half of england is rebel and im going to have to deal with the picts who (i don't know how because they were losing that war) managed to kill the scott king eliminating the faction.

Tonight i was playing as Saxons and i slowly got all of the southern coast and declared war on the Welsh and took half of wales. I looked at Mercia and noticed that they had lots of stacks and with my big navy i noticed that they had taken out the northumbrians. I blitzkrieged their ass and took ut most of their armies and the Irish invaded and took the rest of wales and the western coast and together we took out the Mercians. I noticed that the Pictsand the Scots had not changed at all (well except that the scots lost Ulster http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif )
So really Mercia seems to be very powerful and so too are the Irish if used to their strengths

It seems that in all my VI campaigns the mercians build up a lot. The northumbrians get rolled over and the scots and the picts are always fighting amonst themselves. The welsh get rolled over by the mercians or saxons (witch ever atacks first) and the irish take all ireland.
