To all interested in the napoleonic Mod.

I am finishing the tech tree for the campaign Mod of the Lords...
I would like to discuss here the buildings and tech that the community would like to see in the soon to be released of the napoleonic Mod.

Please put down your thoughts...It will be interesting to have specific buildings, improvements depending of the nation (France, Austria, Russia, Prussia, England and others).
To keep this Mod a community effort (has it was) please put some inputs.

Thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hmmm, a military academy would be nice, as in the original MTW, but buildable much earlier. This could give unit bonus's or some such thing. Hows about some sort of building that allows you to build the elite units? cant think right now what this might be however.

Artillery schools would also be good, as we all know that those in the artillery were much more qualified than their counterparts in the infantry and cavalry.....

These ideas are just off the top of my head, will definitely give this one some more thought, and many thanks for involving the rest of the modding-impaired members of the community who wait with baited breath for this Mod.

Thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The military school will be there as well as a college of mathematics (for ballistic study)...
other buildings so far are:
-Administration (replace castles)
-Secret Police (will replace town watches on first level and allows spyes to be build on second level
- sucar beet factory (for economy)
- Banks
- Diplomatic Hall (for building diplomats)
- Merit Archive Center (to recognize best soldiers and build elite troops)
- College of art and litterature (increase happiness of peaople)
- The horse training centers (light and heavy cav)
- gunsmiths (necessary to build light troops)
- trading center
- Spearmaker for lancers
- Armoury
- Foundries
- Shipyards

....to these I would like to add more peculiar buildings..especially for russian and english troops...

Excellent I would add that maybe a drill square or something could be added for British troops, which would increase valour (we could justify this being a British building only as only the British practiced with live ammo). All the other buildings you mention sound great, i especially like the Secret Police one Maybe the brits should have a seperate building directly relating to the training of Greenjackets, as opposed to normal Light infantry? (i take it the british will get regular light infantry in the next release?)Maybe you could add some more basic industrial type buildings, considering the period we are fighting in? Something like the cloth warehouses or the like?

I will definitely give this some more thought, but from what youve already put down, it seems that you have it pretty much covered.

What about Militia Center? Mustering Field? something like that... wen all things go to hell you might need some militia to defend Paris och London etc etc

Maybe u could use something like this
Militia Training barracks +1 morale +1 discipline
County Training camps +2 morale +2 discipline +1 weapon
State training camp +3 morale +3 discipline +2 weapon

& for some factions like say the English(who use a lot of non national troops) maybe they could launch recruitment drives in places like Ireland, Scotland & Wales. Kinda like a crusade where u pay a once off fee & get a troop lineup generated by the game. They just build the recruitment centre(chapter house) & can then begin recruitment say 2-3 years they get the troops. It might have to be limited to only one recruitment drve at a time & only 1 every 10 years or something

Good ideas insolent1, although i would point out that by the time of the Napoleonic Wars, it was Britain, not England and hence troops from Ireland, Scotland and Wales were all national troops. The foreign troops in the British Army at this time were the Portuguese (Peninsular War), the KGL (are there gonna be KGL troops available?), and at Waterloo there were contingents of Hanoverians, other Germans and Dutch-Belgians. Furthermore, these troops (especially the KGL) were fighting in exile from their homelands and so cannot technically be said to have been mustered. That said, the ideas of Militia training barrack, County barracks etc etc are very good additions.

I have also been thinking about the possible uses of the Crusade piece in the mod, maybe it could be produced in an Army conscription centre or something, as it would give us much larger armies? But then we have the problem that only the French and Russians used conscription, which may unbalance the game.

I think it would be a good idea that all buildings produce a unit or something of somekind, unlike in MTW where you can build a College of Surgeons and really nothing happens, that I know of. Instead you make kind of a "medic" of some sorts for your battlefield, and wherever that medic is on the battlefield, the units around the medic would be harder to kill because they get replenished slowly, very slowly. I dont know sit on it for a while. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Well, I am not sure if this can be done, but can the Crusade piece be modded so that it contains and picks up more 'Conscript/Militia' quality troops rather than trained regiments. This way, if the crusade piece was only available to France and Russia it would not be overly unbalanced because their armies would be of poorer quality.

On the other hand, we would be effectively ruling these nations and could make up our own minds on conscription. Perhaps as the British Monarch you decide to inforce conscription as a parallel to history. If this was the case then I don;t think that the crusade piece should be limited to any nation.

good discussion...
The training drill and the conscription idea needs to be tried.
I will add some kind of buildings to enagland to reflect the trading with its colonies and also the textile production.
Anybody knows how the military units were trained in england? the royal guard?
what about the administration of he provinces?
in France buraucrats were sent and this will be reflected by the Administration building.
Also I will put a -30 or so for the happiness of the poeple when you build a secret service office..Who likes to be watched???? :)it might be interesting...
any info on the mines? should they stay in the game or be replaced by some kind of other economical things ??

Good stuff Le Bob, i think maybe the mines should stay, especially the iron ones British Troops were trained in the barracks, thru extremely repititive and tedious drills for hours a day. This would involve fire practice, as well as a lot of time spent on maneuvres etc. I think an administration will suffice for the admin of the provinces for the British as well.

Please dont hurt me when you read this next question.....do you have any idea when the next release will be ready? im going insane waiting for it....

Here is an update:
we have the music (me),and units (LK,LBA)are ready
C66 is working on the stats adjustment and he is doing good progress.
The tech tree (me) could be done now but since we are still missing other stuff, I am making small changes ect...
The backgrounds are about 50% done I will say (by Hal)..
the portraits are practically done (HAL is doing them too).
The icons and campmap pieces are done by Shand and he is progressing a lot...
So overall, I would say we are 75% done.
I still would like to find some people willing to make battle maps representing cities...My idea is to replace the castles by big cities...Anybody?

voila, pour le moment

Are you trying to make me drown in my own drool or what??

That idea about changing castles into big cities is an EXCELLENT idea Thisll probably sound really sad but im so excited about this mod It seems to me that your breaking new ground in so many areas (?) Ive been asked by LOS to write up a brief historical background for the intro screen and to find out some info on trade goods of the time, which is all underway. I will try making up some city maps but didnt i hear someone talking about using new models for buildings a while ago? IMHO that will not really be necessary anyway, unless were talking actual fortifications which were significantly different from medieval fortifications (even though places like Badajoz were medieval in origin at least). Ill give it a go, but map making takes some time and its something im a wee bit short of at the mo, so no promises on that one.

Well, well cant be long now Although from what youve said itll probably take me three days to d/l it with my poxy lil 56k ah well never mind....

Lord Ux,

Welcome aboard Sorry I was nto aware that you collaborate with LOS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
The idea is to release a backbone napoleonic Mod with addons. We will release several packages.

Concerning the idea of replacing the castles by cities this can be added whenever we want.
Maybe we could start with the capital of the main countries.
It does not have to be accurate at all...
I don't know anything about the changing the models og the buildings but I think the team that is working on the lord of the rings (which looks AWESOME&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif are going to play with this. I saw a screen of a map they did and it was wonderfull.

ok, back to my family and to the MOD.
