I would just like to know how do people feel about VI, if it's worth buying.

I bought VI because of what it added to the game. More units, another campaign, pre-battle screen, etc...
Yes the bugs have been annoying, but overall I am very satisfied with the expansion.
I also purchased VI as a way of showing my support for CA and their Total War series.
As long as nothing disastrous happens I plan to buy RTW once it is finally http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif released as well.
I am having more fun playing the Viking campaign than I ever had in Medieval. The economics are harder, each faction is different to play than all the others, and you have to learn to skirmish if you expect to defeat the Vikings. And the battle music when playing as the Vikings is very good. I think it was probably the best money I have ever spent on a game.

Yes, I got it a couple of days before it was supposed to be out (Wednesday instead of Friday). I love the new campaign. It is much more manageable and doesn't need weeks to finish like the main campaign.
It is worth buying, especially if you liked Shogun as it is similar in feel and scope.
I just wish that they would patch the bugs.

Arhhh I'm going to get it, just as soon as all my coursework is submitted and my last exam is over. Then I can relax, except for my summer job.

it's worth buying, but beware that there are annoying bugs.
I bought VI recently, but I never installed it or played it. The very day that I bought it, I read the postings in the Main Hall about the kings always dying at age 56, and no word about a patch yet. That put a bad taste in my mouth, so I have refrained from even installing it so far.
I bought it the first day it came out and am very satisfied with it. Though kings dying at 56 makes me sad. They have to die so young... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
Just bought it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Just got home a minute ago actually, firing up the installer now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif:):):)
Who should I play first??
It is worth it.
New campaign is nice and you can do a lot of moding.
i hope they get the newfactionbug in selfplayed battles fixed.

not going to patch the game you say... im leaning on not to buy the game.

I say you should go and buy it. it is worth it, and the new enhancements are great
I didn't vote. I want to say No, I'm waiting for the 56 year old and quicksave bugs to be patched.
Those bugs would kill the game for me, even with the improvements.
If Activision want my money, they'd better come to the party.
I am still enjoying MTW. Never played Shogun so I do not miss the smaller map. I only play SP campaigns. What is the advantage to buying VI?

its worth it. oh hell ya.
Hmmm...may go buy it today...still debating...the dying at 56 does not bother me much, heck,in regular MTW,my kings drop like flies as it is. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I like it alot. The bugs have never really affected me too much- its not like they ruin the game.
Do kings always die at 56 ? I haven't noticed mine doing so. Its not like people live for long in that age anyway.
My only gripe would be they havent't made micromanagement particulary easier- grouping assassins etc

There isn't an option for me I bought VI and I don't regret it, but by no means could I say I was satisfied.
'That bug' does annoy me sufficiently to prevent me endorsing it wholeheartly, but not enough for me to want a refund.
(And compared with London Underground, well at least in VI you know when the problems will occur http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif )

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif I like it a lot but those English certainly revolt a lot and the Vikings can be a disloyal pack of bastards.
Still getting to grips with it and when it becomes more stable (see other posting under Installing VI) I am sure it will be great.
Any hints on keeping the florins coming in?

Australianus, welcome aboard the Org. Your question about flowing florin is a good idea to discuss in another topic. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
I've been playing alot VI the last weekend while staying over at a friends house (doing nothing but playing). It did not take long until I discovered what you here in the forums call the 56 years bug. I am seriously not going to buy this game until I know there is a patch to secure the factions from not falling apart because of that bug.

Welcome to the Org Odinn. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
I detect a subtle theme in all your posts so far. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think your hidden message is that you want the 56 year old king bug fixed... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif It would indeed be nice to fix that bug.

Well, from what I've heard so far I would really like to buy the game , but the bugs seem to be a nuissance.
I'll just wait so far.

Well, I said in the main hall that I wouldn't buy VI untill the bugs are fixed (or are promised to be fixed). A couple of days ago I was standing in a game shop with VI in one hand and Colin McRae 3 in the other... I had to dust off the ole steering wheel first http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

JANOSIK weren't you the one witht the CD key problem with your copy of MTW? Did you ever resolve it? I know you were dying to play online but couldn't. I'd have thought you'd be one of the first in line for VI

Yeap. IT's me. But there's a money issue that I have to face. First I have to scramble 30 bucks.
BTW, how does the MP work, because I don't want to be a sucker twice. But that's just me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I am v disappointed not much bang for your buck
the Viking invasion campaign is really dull, the additions to the main game are good but minor and we still need more user friendly functions to keep track of everything eg city build queues and taxes.

I'm hoping to buy the expansion pack in the next week or two. It sounds great, and will no doubt provide many new modding capabilities. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I like the expansion but do find it a bit odd that an expansion set provides a smaller, simpler game.
In a perfect world, somebody would learn this game's system with the Vikings. The map's smaller. The units are simpler. The economy is crude and easier to manage. The strategy goal is brutally straightforward.
Still, the expansion is worthwhile, at least from the view of people who play the Muslim factions. We get a sort of knight lite in the faris and some usable sword-line infantry.
I like the new Hungarian faction and other new units, too.

Computer Gaming World's current issue reviews VI (4.5 stars out of 5) and has this to say in its summary:
Quote[/b] ]Viking Invasion is practically a full sequel.
One person's patch is another person's sequel.

Hmmm, now I don't have VI but from what I've seen and heard calling it a sequel is a bit overdone? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I'm satisfied with VI because I enjoy the new campaign and units. If it didn't have some annoying bugs and if it had a sheet with the tech tree and units on it (like MTW) than it would be one of the better expansion packs that I've bought.
btw, how much smaller (province wise) is VI in comparison to MTW? The campaigns seem much faster to me.

Yes and I like it...
I just dont have enough time in the day to play everything.....
I still havent played as the Italians, Egyptians or Russians from the first game yet....
To much to do and to little time to do it in http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
