In AD915 I sent a bishop from Ireland to Hordaland to check on the state of play in Vikingland. He couldn't get in due to the absence of a port, the same in Jutland. The tool tips said that they were rebel provinces.
Since there were only five fleets and two armies of theirs in and around the British Isles I thought I'd take a chance and attack my Viking allies. I wiped out their entire navy - except the fleet in the North Sea - and the following year caught their King on the Isle of Man with only 60 men, his naval cover having been blown.
I captured and ransomed him then a parchment popped up saying that he'd converted to Christianity, seen the error of his ways and would never raid the British Isles again - or words to that effect.
The following year I found him in his last remaining province, Dal Riada, where he was still classed as "enemy". He was killed and the survivors became rebels but not before the North Sea fleet sunk one of mine in an effort to reach them.
Can I believe his repentant speech or - if the Vikings ever regain power in their homeland - will his vengeful and grieving relatives return mob-handed seeking revenge at some time in the future?
