Are the turcoman horse supposed to be superior to the normal horse archers. I havent not noticed any difference, in fact the plain horse archers seem better to me. Does any one know what their statistics are? I looked in the game folder and the only thing I can see is projectile stats and I fell too ignorant to mess around.
Same question really about the turcoman foot and ottoman infantry - whats the difference?
Thanks
I also had another question - if you dont ransom back men is there a penalty such as reduced loyalty in generals?

Turcoman are better than regular horse archers. Take a look at stats:
Horse archer
Charge 2
Attack -1
Defence 0
Armour 2
Morale -1
Cost 250
Turcoman
Charge 2
Attack 1
Defence 1
Armour 3
Morale -1
Cost 300
About turcoman foot and ottoman:
Turcoman foot
Charge ? (not sure)
Attack -1
Defence 3
Armour 4
Morale -1
Cost 300
Ottoman
Charge 2
Attack 1 armour piercing
Defence 1
Armour 3
Morale 0
Cost 275
Both of them are armed with bows hence equal in this matter.
Now you have to choose what fits your needs. If you have more doubts try this site

Never noticed any loyalty penaltys for not ransoming loosers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Turcoman Horse are great compared to normal horse archers and u can produce them at +2 valour in Tripoli with master horse breeder. Only the mongol horse archer is better but with armouries, mosques & the +2 valour turcoman horse can be better

Well, mamluk archers, Byz cav and Szekely are also better than Turcoman Horse. In the hierarchy of the horse archers, the Turcoman come just above the vanilla horse archers and on the same level as Turcopole, but under all other horse archers.
Turcoman foot are also quicker than Ottoman and have less upkeep. I consider them as more usefull.

I'm not sure I agree that they're worse than the byz. They're faster than the byz and in some situations that's very important. You forgot to add stepp heavy cav too.

The Turco cav archers are my absolute favorites, because of two factors. Their speed and the fact that they are cheap expandable bait.
Speed is essential for cav archers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There are penalties if you don't ransom back your men. I can't quite remember what they are but its something like a hit to happiness or loyalty, maybe a reduction in your king's influence? You can refuse to ransom a couple of times without penalty but you will get hit if you keep refusing. Your men fight with the belief that you will pay to get them back if they are captured in your service. If they doubt this they are not happy bunnies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

faris, boyars etc all the lack the essential ingredient of the horse archer SPEED. I've had my mamlukes chased in some battles & had to route the unit because it couldn't outrun the AHC or Knights(& was about to get pinned at edge of map) that where chasing them but teh turcoman horse outrun all but the fastest ligh cav & with afew armour upgrades can give teh light cav a nasty shock

Always operate your Turco cav in pairs, and in an ideal world you should have a unit of Alans lurking nearby for eventual interception duty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Try bringing pairs of Turco cav instead of the single unit. You shall have better luck and tactical opportunities.

In return, heavier versions of HA are supposed to be able to deal with the pursuers, or at least hold them for a bit until you drive some other unit into pursuer's rear. It's better to use their bows to inflict some casualties and then press on instead of using them as pure skirmishers.

Hey, they don't have the speed cause they don't need it. Why are you running your boyars away from other horsies? Use some spears and the boyars and those horsies are dog food.
