It's a great pag Yas - but what is the "new units compare tool"? I don't see anything there that wasn't there a week ago - you've always had the unit stats visible??

Ok, couldn“t try the tool yet, but it sounds great.
I just looked at your site and found a small error:
Heavy Steppe Cavalry can be built by any faction, I know that, because I did it with the Germans in my current campaign. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks sinan and Husar..

The applicable factions info r divided to Non_campaign and Campaign info..
Heavy Steppe Cavalry can be built by all faction in campaign mode as u said, but it can be use only Golden_Horde in Non_campaign mode(custom and multiplay..).

Great tool, very nice. But I have a suggestion about the power rating, or whatever you call the score you give on each unit. There's a slight flaw with your calculation - you fail to take into account the number of men in each unit - and that can make or break performance.

For example, Byzantine infantry have 100 men, which makes them much stronger than their plain stats would show. The stats shown are not for the unit as a whole, but for each soldier in it. They can defeat units with higher stats because of their numbers. Same with kats vs. early royal knights where it is 40 kats vs. 20 rk's, for example. You have early royal knights rated higher, but kats of equal valor will defeat early royals every time from my experience just due to numbers.

But still a great tool, very nice and slick.

Thanks alot, Griefman.
I also feel the CombatRatings
(atk+def+(charge+armour+morale)/2)
r not perfect, and should be upgraded for more exact compare.
Can you suggest any formula please?
Or can any guys do?
For example, like {(atk+def+(charge+armour+morale)/2) *men% }

I am not sure about modifying the combat ratings for unit size. I can see the 40 kats vs 20 royal knights example as clear cut, where the comparative combat power of the kats is double what its raw value would suggest. Byz infantry compared to FMAA would be another example where scaling for unit size is appropriate.

But if we compare say 100 spears vs 60 swords, I am not so sure - for one thing, not all individual men fight: some (often most) are behind the ranks and don't fight unless when replacing fallen comrades.

For spear units, IIRC these units are already contributing to the combat factor (I think their rank bonuses are included in the combat factors), so multiplying spears x 100 and swords by x 60 may lead to some double counting.

Also, small shock units sometimes do disproportionately well - eg by pushing back, re-charging etc, flanking, breaking the enemies morale etc. The fact that only two men may attack an enemy at one time also limits the impact of numbers.

On balance, I like the current combat factors which show how one individual soldier in a unit performs and leave it to the player to factor in unit size. Often we are choosing within classes (eg best sword, best spear etc) and so differing unit size is not a problem. However, I don't feel strongly about this.
