I don't think there are any new mods for Shogun since Medieval came out. Some of the old mods are very good though. If you haven't tried them already I would recomend:
Gempai War mod: Set back in an earlier period of Japanese history with 4 different factions and new clan symbols.
Ikki scenario: Never actually tried this myself but have heard good things about it.
Warlords 1550: Fantasy scenario in which each clan starts in the province they specialize in, Takeda in Shinano etc. Lots of elite units from the start. Especially fun and challenging to play as Rebels & Ronin.
There were also some modded campaigns that had all the clans there and had the mongols invading as well.
You probably know this already, but .conan. can be used to play as the Rebels & Ronin in any scenario.
Artificial handicaps can make the regular campaigns a lot more fun as well. Playing as the takeda and training only cavalry can be interesting.
If you're looking for a fresh way to play it the best that I can suggest is to play online. It's alot more fun than single player.

The 4 diff factions, do they have thier own units? Are they with the other main factions? Thanks.

There are only four factions on the map, the Fujiwara, the Taira, the Minamoto, and another one. The clan symbols they have are new and they have new Daimyos and heirs. There aren't any unique units but each of the clans specializes in a certain type of unit.

Information on Gempei war.
Shinano, thank you for the link, very interesting site overall. Lots of info for anyone curious about the era that STW is set in.

I always want to make a mod like this, but never be able to understand what are those numbers about. Actually, I come here looking for some kind of modding guide for STW.
Thanks for the info Shinano
and thanks to the author of the mod.
Anyway, is there a modding guide for STW anywhere? Edit Never mind. I found the Campaign Editor Tool in the DL section.

Great, that tool will certainly be of help. Make sure you have version 1.1b since that one includes some fixes and is more powerful.
You could check http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/faq.shtml for Campaign guides.
Thanks Tosa.
I got the 1.1b. It is great. Within 2 hours, I completed my first campaign. It's just an experiment to see how the tool works.
