I'm slightly trepidatious about drawing attention to this, but nevertheless...
If you look on CA's jobs page (which is here (http://www.creative-assembly.co.uk/jobs.shtml)) you'll see that in addition to the usual programmer and artist roles, we're currently advertising for QA people - i.e. games testers. "Your chance to work at CA and quite possibly to test Rome at first-hand", and all that.
I'm highlighting this because it's entirely possible that someone at the .org could make a good tester. But anyone who might be tempted to apply *must* take on board the following facts:
- this is a paid job, not an ad for external beta testers
- applicants will be interviewed at the CA Southwater studio which is in West Sussex, England, where the successful applicants will be working every day... this is not a telecommuting job, so if you aren't a UK resident or willing to become one, forget it
- mentioning the names of any CA staff you know from online will be irrelevant
- do not contact me or any other CA staff from the forums about this; use the application procedure outlined on the webpage. In particular, do not ask us questions about the job, or ask for advice or help in applying
- really, do NOT say anything like "Medieval sucked but I can stop Rome from sucking" in your covering letter ;-)
I mention all these facts here because I recall seeing an ad for a level designer at Ion Storm which carried about two screensful of similar disclaimers and warnings. Basically, this is an extreme way of saying 'no timewasters'.

"Honey... get my bathing suit. I'm dogpaddlin to England"
As a nod to all the mall surveys covering the educational savvy of american students.
"Uh, isn't that someplace by Japan? You know, that's where they make Mario Brothers XXXIIILLL, The Plumbing Strikes Back."
Oh why all mighty deity of software creation did I move back to the states?
You moved because the games were cheaper http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Well, you're entitled to your opinion... but it's just as well I'm a consummate professional, as otherwise I'd congratulate you on a quality bit of stone-throwing from within your glass house ;-)

Should I wear my baggy-briefs-style trunks, or my neon-blue-speedo-my-god-what-was-I-thinking trunks for my swim to England?
How much of the cash would u get for such a job as a point of intrest?

First and only repetition: questions about the job will not be answered. If you're serious about the job, send in your CV as per the jobs page.

I must recommend leaving your Org handles off of your CV. With the kind of viriolic posts some of you have written previously, you may be called in just to receive a punch in the nose.

lol
The tale is told that during playtesting for balance purposes on (I think) Age of Empires 2, a month's work was completely invalidated because one of the testers was using cheat codes so that he would always win his games...
OK... moderators, I'm cool with this being moved if it's annoyingly out of place... it's had its couple of days in the sun, for which I thank you.
er would that mean going to CA's office http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
