Would you, could you, be so kind as to tell a total noob how to up the ammo for my longbowmen? In bonehead-non-tech terms please. (I'm not that bright. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif )

In the m:tw directory there is a file called something like "CRUSADER_UNIT_PROD11". Make a backup (important) then open it and you'll see a list of all units in the game. search for the unit you want (longbows in your case).
In the units description there is a line saying something like AMMO=(28) (I'm not quite sure about the syntax, but it should be easy to find). Change the 28 to a higher number and you're set. I'd stay with 2 digits, but I don't know if more would work.

Don't up it too much if you want historical accuracy since the longbowmen fought quite a lot in hand to hand too.

Gnome unit editor (http://www.3ddownloads.com/strategy-gaming/totalwar/Tools/Gnome_UnitBuildProj_Editorv2.0.zip)

Download this unit editor. It's much easier to read and edit the files with this baby http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
