I love MTW but...
we need more user friendly functions to keep track of everything eg. city build queues and taxes.
I find it cumbersome to open every city and tweet every thing, better to have a master screen btw the money military tab seems useless once ya army is large.
any thoughts... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

You are right about that, but I'll be darned if I can think of a way to handle things better.
The obvious fix is to let the game have more control via the auto features. To many of us (myself included) distrust the AI and want to control it all. Although the AI might be stupid at times, so were (and are) the people put in charge of such tasks in reality. Perhaps we just need to let go of some of the more mundane aspects of building our empires.

Coudl you find howthe other bars works like looking at you heirs, all your lands and their values, your alliances etc? Maybe we can make another button to show tax rate and the works.?
You can assign AI governors to help, I also would expect that many of the same auto features of M:TW will be there, at least I hope the auto tax will be, its very helpful when each province automatically gets taxed as high as it can without becoming rebellious.

I would like all custom battle setups to be confined to 1-2 screens. This could be a bit hard, but in VI, it is quite frustrating to go through the 4 screens of era selection, faction selection, map selection and troop selection and having to wait 10-15 seconds in between each screen. I find it somewhat annoying. Also, if you make a mistake on one of the previous screens, chances are you have to go back to the main menu and start the whole process over again.
I suggest a two-screen system. The first screen would be like the multiplayer setup, where you choose the season, map, era(if there are eras), number of enemies, and money level. The second screen could be a combination of army selection and faction selection.
I hate searching in each stack for a decent governor. They should allow you to sort all generals by acumen, dread, etc. Lets say you want a governor with high loyalty and dread for a rebellious province, you can just sort your generals by those characteristics and if you see a general that is near the top of both lists, you pick him.
Yes, I would like to be able to select my army, then have all my generals appear in a list with their stats listed numerically.

Quintus Pyrus -1 12 5 6

Nice idea. That would help immensely.

Thanks people these are some great ideas esp. shorty's one
let's hope the powers that be are listening.
I want to control (micromanage) BUT I want helpful tables to be able to do this quickly. The run down of vices and virtues in VI is a start but having it only appear on turns is a draw-back.

As the game stands now, I don't think I'll ever reach the 15th century, a turn takes 10 minutes... what with ships, armies, generals, buildings, agents etc to look after. Even Civ 3 is faster than this.
Looking at Shorty's idea what about having the game also suggest a best commander from that list, it could speed things up considerably in the later stages of the game. You could keep things a bit interesting if the suggestion did not take any secret vices/virtues into account.

Is that just to calculate after the end turn or to complete all your moves etc?
If the latter, that sounds like a new ironman rule to me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif If I can complete all my moves, builds, hunt for Governors & generals, assignments for special agents, trade routes, army recombinations etc inside of 30 minutes I consider that a hasty turn...
And yes, I hae been playing for 10 months and am only half way through my third campaign (and I had to abandon the first one after the 1.1 patch).
Actually I think the cause is largely down to the user interface - The ideas suggested in this thread are just what is required. Every stat of note should appear in a list, all lists should be sortable by all stats that appear in them, and all lisetd entries should click through to the unit in question.
I would like to see every unit commander appearing on a list, not just the stack generals - when I am hunting for that elusive 7 acumen Urban Militia general that I knew I had 5 years ago, it would be nice to find him inside of 15 minutes...

minutes...

30 minutes? Ouch. This is the first game where I make up procedures to speed up the game.
Step 1: Check province constructions from top to bottom.
2: Move agents.
3: Move navy
4: Move army
5: Spy, use hitmen, bride, treatys
6: Plot
7: Wonder whether I miss anything
Oh if my monarch dies I have to check all loyalty.
