I just wanted to ask if anyone have had their berserkers routing.
I have not played this game so much so I'm not sure if they can rout or not. Only played 2 battles where berserkers were included, the general on one of them had so huge command bonus and many good vices that the only units routing was peasants, on the other battle we were superior in number.
The 2 battles was both won pretty easy so there was no reason for any elite unit to rout, in the other battles I played, berserkers was not awailable...
Anyway, if a battle is going bad for the Vikings, do the berserkers start routing? Or do they fight their way to Vallhall till their last man is dead? If they rout, that should be considered a bug and fixed on in an eventual patch.
Yes, I know that "Viking" armies routed. But there were two types of warriors that did not rout. The hirdmen of the king, Jomsvikings in this game (unless he, meaning you in the game, ordered the rout).
And the warriors who had entered the frenzy called berserkrgangr. Warriors in berserkrgangr would not been able to rout, it would be the last thinkable thing to do. Some of them would even be glad to join Odinn in Vallhall by the way http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I have seen berserkers route once. They were down to 1 man and surrounded by 5 enemy units. They had hacked their way through more than 800 enemy troops before getting too far ahead of the line and consequently surrounded.

All Viking units will route given appropriate circumstances. Huscarles, Joms Vikings and berserkers don't route easily though, think of knights with a morale bonus.

I've never seen them route, in fact ive had problems getting them to withdraw when they were about to be annihilated(its worth to save them when they are down to 1 or 2 since you can retrain them in 1 turn).

They rout. And I'd love to know what difficulty the game was set on when they slaughtered 800 people.

Yes they rout. At least in MP http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Any unit will rout if the negative combat morale modifiers add up...

It was set on normal like most of my games (I like the level playing field). They were commanded by a 9 star general Vs the Mercians. They were mostly up against fyrd, spearmen and the like so it wasn't that tough. There were some Saxon huscarles in the mob that finished them though.

Berserkers rock They charge in to battle like this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif the enemy look like this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif when they see them. During the slaughter the enemy general is like this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif while the Vikings are http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif .After the battle the Vikings are all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Go Vikings (guess which faction I like then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

I have had and seen berserkers rout on expert. It never happens when there are more than two left and it always seems to be when the general has been killed and they are hopelessly outnumbered.

Berserkers are easy enough to kill anyway. If you allow them to mix it up with your troops you will suffer high casualties, but if you have a couple of archer units around you can whittle their number down by half quite easily before they reach your lines. I always have extra archers on hand when I know I am going to be facing the Vikings or Picts. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
