View Full Version : Medieval Request

Ok, I was just reading a little history and it seems at the time in question (The early period anyway) Egypt had more Pagans than Muslims, in fact some offices in it's government were pagan, christian, and (of course) muslim. While Egypt is of an undeniably muslim, an entire host of gods had temples, churches, and mosques all across Egypt during the early 1000's,though the other provinces (surrounding the State of Egypt) were all moderately to extremely Islamic at the time. It wasn't until the mid 1200's that egypt itself had a fully muslim governing body and laws to keep it that way, and so, Thus Follows my Request
I am requesting a near complete copy of the Early Period Campaign map, with one striking adaptation. I am requesting that the provinces east of the State of Egypt be given to The Turks (for lack of a better Islamic Power) and the lone Province of Egypt be transformed into a Pagan Province, complete with the ability to create Gothic Foot Soldiers, Gothic Knights, Stone Circles, Temples (just use the picture of the church) and other rule fixes to make them suitably Pagan. It seems a very reasonable request and would add a bit of challenge to the game, as well as a bit of diversity and fun for those of us who would like a third option. I know there were no pagan powerhouses at the time, and all things considered, Egypt wouldn't have a good starting position given such a change making the creation of one much less historically far fetched. Egypt would ideally start out with a few peasants and a renegade Emperor. Please take this into consideration.
Thank You.
PS: It would be best for the success of the mod that it be made for the current patch version. Again Thanks.

Modding MTW is actually quite easy (althought there are some issues with new factions right now). Rather than ask someone else to do this thing for you why don't you do it yourself. What you propose is fairly easy. I'm sure many of us would be much more inclined to help you out as you learn than to just go and do it for you and say 'here you go'. It is all text editing.

It seems unlikey - Egypt was conquered by the Moslems in 642 AD, and pagans were NOT tolerated by any self-respecting Islamic regime.

heh Hak, tell that to the folks at the History Channel. the Muslim rulers of the time not only tolerated Pagans, but shared office with them until they converted the population for the most part.
Anyway, as for Modding the game like that, how exactly do I get started. I would be downloading mod tools but there's no file description so I don't know what does what. If someone helped me get started I'd really get going, I did with Baldur's Gate, not to mention Disciples 2.

If a moderator sees this, he'll move your request to the Dungeon forum, the place to be for modders. Meanwhile, you can check and browse through the dungeon by yourself, but you cannot post there yet.

Commentaire[/b] (Hakonarson @ Juin 23 2003,03:31)]It seems unlikey - Egypt was conquered by the Moslems in 642 AD, and pagans were NOT tolerated by any self-respecting Islamic regime.
Ignorance... When Islam was dominant culturally & scientifically(roughly 800-1200), it was more than tolerant, especially when you think of the roughness of the times. Example, the Cordoba Mosque was opened on firdays for the prayer, on saturdays for the shabbat & on sundays for the catholics.
I haven't heard of that pagan heavy presence in Egypt till 1200, but, according to the overall religions histories, it is very possible. In fact, Moslims of 1100's were probably more tolerant than many today's christians... This has changed, of course, with the catastrophic loss of Andalucia.

Also, under Islamic rule in Jerusalem Christs, Muslims and Jews lived peacefully together. Why shouldn`t the Muslims tolerate pagans as well?

Hello Tiger_CatX.
Take Raistlin's and Brutal's advice: do it yourself and look through the pinned topics in the Dungeon. Download the tools mentioned and form specific questions to ask. As with all modding, make a backup copy of ALL files you are going to change to you can recover in the event you really mess up a file.
One question I do have though: what is the goal of your proposed mod? Historical accuracy? Put the Turks in a better starting position? Make Egypt a southern version of Denmark? There should be a hook that makes the mod worth doing - at least for your own satisfaction.
You can't give to the Turkish the Provinces at the East of Egypt, that's not right. By 1100, the turks were still at Antioch, and those regions, i think.

Actually my goal was to make the State of Egypt a Pagan state, allowing a new game play option. I know the Turks didn't hold the provinces east of Egypt, but they were very islamic provinces, and Egypt was the only one with a significantly large Pagan population (Most likely due to the many majestic temples to pagan gods that stood the test of time). I wanted to make a special scenario where Egypt fell to a self proclaimed Pagan emperor of some kind where a person would start with nothing but an Army of Peasants in egypt and expand outward from there. It's not as much for historical accuracy as it is to allow people, such as myself, to play a Pagan faction that will actually work with the new patch. The Pagan Princess Mod for example was fun, though a lot of the pictures when construction was completed didn't show and it won't work with patch 1.1. That mod was good, but it changed a lot more than I wish to change.
As for me doing it myself, what tools do I need? Because there's no file description in the downloads section it's a bit confusing as I have no way of knowing what does what and I haven't modded a game since Disciples 2

Well.. Ah screw it, this game is freaking dull anyway. I mean it was nice to play a over hyped version of Risk and all, but now it's just damned old. Bah, I got my cable turned back on anyway, I'm going back to Neocron, it's an MMORPG that really owns all the rest.
Peace. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
