cavalry archer tactics

i was playing as the russians and thee are these frequent revolts and there are around 500-900 peasents. I usually have boyars and cavalry archers and use them to hit and run. however, how do i make this tactic more effective (i.e. more kills, less casualities, terrain perhaps?) and is there an easy way out of doing it?

please post your experiences of how to hit and run effectively.

If you have small amount of units (1-6) you could take them off from skirmish mode so that they shoot more (becouse they're not running all the time), but this requires a rather lot of attention. And Boyars can crush peasants without much casualties anyway.

On this site go to files -> medieval downloads -> recorded battles and download horse archers 1 and horse archers 2. These excellent replays demonstrate how to use horse archers in multiplayer but the tactics should be fine in single player. They may not work if you have VI installed though.
