War in VI is a joke!

Well both times another faction in the VI campagin started with me they attacked my ships...and that was it. They never attacked any of my provinces, even the ones where they had 4 or more stacks of units in a nearby province, just sat there. The factions who stayed allies with me would take a stab and 1 or 2 of the enemies provinces but end up not gaining or lossing any ground. The only time I was attacked was when it was a cival war in their faction, I snuck in, took a province but they came back and took it right away.

It seems that unless you are the agressor this campagin is to "non-violent". Other then the Vikings, who after 75 years in a row done nothing, no one really attacks you. While I'm on the Vikings, for 75 turns now they haven't moved, whats up with that?

I play on normal but want more defence chances. I like to attack but defending is my piece of the pie really.

Go play on hard or expert, the AI is much more agressive that way.

or go look for some mod like wesmod.

Install Wes's version 2.0 mod and those peace lovers will all backstab you at every chance. Actually, they are all waiting to do that now. Just wait till someone actually does attack you, all the rest will pile on in the next turn. It can turn a perfectly good game into a rout of your faction in no time.

Wars are not won by being defensive. I prefer defensive battles and I have had some real nice ones (especially on bridge maps, where I can often rout the enemy with almost no casualties to my own side)

I don't like attacking but its the way it has to be.

Ship combat really sucks because the results are not worked out very well, I have had a small fleet of 3 or 4 ships get destroyed by only 1 barque or galley

Ship combat I think should be considered a skirmish rather than full blown war, since quite a few nations sunk another countries ships when they had the chance, without it blowing into full scale war.

Actually, I don't mind that the game doesn't necessarily turn into a total war every time after 50 turns. Now I can even own around 50% of the map, and 2 or 3 factions would still be neutral (if I don't share borders with them, of course), which is not that bad. Alliances have more staying power, the AI is more active in diplomacy, as well as in accepting treaties, which was unthinkable before, etc. If you want more defensive battles, don't park 6 fully upgraded stacks in every border province, and they'll come. The vikings have a bad time economy-wise, and if they don't succeed at first, after they lose the starting armies they have no money to build new ones, plus they probably get the expensive heir syndrome in addition to that, and they have no choice but to remain passive. What I would prefer to see is more wars between the AI factions. Everybody seems to be at peace all the time; the kingdoms grow stagnant, produce bad heirs, don't train their generals; after they reach the support limit they are stuck with the same batch of (obsolete) troops, since they don't lose them to build the new ones; they have no money either since they don't do conquest, but they beef up on troops regardless, resulting in provinces being not built up; the ruler's influence remains low and keeps dropping, which in turn, coupled with the 56yrs bug, generates a lot of civil wars, etc. Ganging up on player is not really fun, but facing decent armies instead of rebels is.

In my first Saxon game I gave the vikings 50,000 florins they have most of scotland & central england. Their armies are very good & I was waiting for them to start fielding joms vikings but i got bored & never finished the campaign. Have not really had a problem....must be my personality. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Played as Saxons and caught it from Viking raids and the Mercians constantly. As the Northumbrians from the Vikings and Mercians and picts constantly.
