I bought the MI expansion last week and played 4 complete campains (1 mogul invasion, 2 take all japan on easy and 1 on normal) sofar i have not had a legendary swordsman yet!!!
usually i let the comp fight my battles (the easy ones!)
do i have to fight all my battles myself?

Overkill - yes you must fight the battles yourself to get the legendary swordsman event. Autocalc for battles is there for once your established. Early battles are, quite honestly, too critical to entrust to the autocalc routine.

I've found the best way to get the swordsman event is to send your Daimyo into a large group of ARCHERS or ASHI -- as long as it's one Daimyo unit against all of them, he'll most likely survive, and will have so many kills that it spawns the legend...

thanks to all for the tips.
i'll try them out.
does it only work with the daimyo?
on my last game i had a ys kick major butt
(160+ kills) and earned 2 honor but it did not work.
happy hunting.

Its odd the exact circumstances - it requires a single man in any unit to get a certain # of kills in that single engagement. So while 60 men may kill 180 - on average they each will have 3 kills - now if the same unit got 180 kills, and 40 or so were by one person, then u would get the event.
Any h2h unit can get you the event. Archers, muskies (and arq's), and xbowmen if you have them, cannot give you the event due to them being primarily a ranged attack unit.
The best way to get the event is to use a specific, small unit (30 or so men) as a flanker into a quick routing enemy - Ashigaru are a good target. Spread out your small unit into a 2 line string, and charge the rear or wait until the target unit breaks INTO your line. If you have your men in Hold Position, they will slaughter the routers - and the smaller the number of men in the unit the more kills they will each get...

you can also use your cavalry (or daimyo bodyguard unit if it's early in the game) to chase down fleeing enemy, which helps in getting the event.

i never charge from the rear.
did they change that a fleeing unit was overpowerfull???
that one YS-unit only had 4 guy's left when the battle was over. that was one heck of a fight!
BTW: i started a new game and it finally worked. but none of my troops performed THAT well.

I haven't tested if the old rule-of-thumb about autoresolving castle sieges as a quick way of getting a LS event still works. Does it? (Someone might have posted about it already at some point, but you know how my memory is...)

I'm not sure if auto resolve still works to get the event. I don't like using it because you lose more warriors than if you fought it out yourself. I usually do what Soly suggested, use my Daimyo to attack an archer unit early in the campaign. I can usually trigger the event by the second battle if not the first. Just be careful not to expose him to a flank attack by YS's, guard his flank with YA unit, they're fast enough to keep up. Any of his hatamoto bodyguard will be regenerated for free on the next turn, so losing a few doesn't hurt as long as your Daimyo survives.
