What happens when you invade a province and at the same time, the AI in that province invades your invading province?

Do the armies clash?(I think it happened to me once)

Do they take all units whether invading or defending into a battle?

Or does the invading army attack the defending armies, and if its an all out invasion it will end up with switch provinces?(this happened to me)

Me confused.

In Shogun the used to swap provinces without any fighting. I guess the same would happen in medieval but I haven't seen it, the AI has been happy to defend it's provinces when I attack.

I'm not sure exactly how it's calculated but the two armies would end up fighting eachother and you would end up with one defending and one attacking. I think the larger numerically of the two always ends up as the attacker, but I haven't checked on this. Just a theory.

Avoids the problem of the two marching straight past eachother.

Ahhhhhh A monster Welcome to the Org YG. I just have to let you know I've been a fan of yours for close to 40 years since I was a kid. You are by far the coolest monster on the planet. And I'm certain King Kong cheated.

Ohkini arigato Gregoshi. For great honour YG will toil as no other Kaiju

Although I must admit taking a fancy to both The Incredible Varan and Mothra in my time.

Two times I had this situation ...

one the IA attacked me and the next turn was a war declaration ...

the other they retreat but I don't remember if there was a war declaration after that, I think that there wasn't but not sure ....

Sometimes what happens but on a rare occasion the defender stays to defend and usually do to having nowhere to retreat and the 2 attacking armies have to duke it out. After they duke it out the EXHAUSTED winner has to take on the defender. Only happened to me once all other times 1 of the forces withdrew, wether it was me the other attacker or defender. What I had to do was take out the other attacker because I was being marched upon immediately I had about 300 and the other attacker had close to the same, won that battle and chased the 100 peasant defenders out of the trees who instead of deciding to withdraw started to do the you cant catch me dance.(didnt have any cavalry) but I was well prepared for this strategy since my army was already tired. My reserve force greeted them very happily and started taking trophies ( :

The other time that was simalar to this was there was a peasant rebellion but I had the resources to take that territory. I had an army bigger than the other 2 armies but not a bigger army than the 2 put together So I marched and paused for short bit watching what the rebels and defender would do. So far so good the rebels with a mousover showed up neutral. So I watched the rebel army take a hill and wait. So I took a defensive postion to the right of the defender with the rebels to the other side of the defenders. Ok good they are still neutral and should they go hostile I put a decent gap btween us that would give me a good amount of time to make proper moves. So the battle is going on, and the enemy starts routing off the field. As they are routing I see myself getting close to the rebel army as they rout or skirmish so I select all and order a mass halt. Since I put myself in a defensive postion, I had to watch most of the enemy troops rally. Gee how wonderful but at least the rebels are stil neutral. I decided the best thing to do was a short retreat into the woods so there archers did minimal damage as I rested my troops and waited for them to form back up to see what actions they would perform next. They started to make there move so I ordered my army to attack. After I take a few heads there army starts to rout so I decided to pusuay them very hard this time to make the most I can before I have to halt my army for there safety and what comes next a mass rout every single unit is routing this time( : low and behold what do I see the rebel army is marching and what does the mouse over show this time ENEMY. So I halted most of my units but kept a few pusuing that were in the lead and made it safely past the rebels before they charged down the hill. So here I am in the bottom of a valley with rebels charging down a hill at my tired army and a few units chasing the routers down that should they rally my units are stuck with no possible retreat. So the defender starts rallying but luckilly not all of them, things are looking bad, my main army is getting hammered from taking on a downhill charge from a fresh army and I have uncertain units pursuing a rallying army. The routing army was leapfrogging as I routed 1 another would rally but I was getting them closer to the point of no return and the rebels went to exchanging equal casualties. So what happens next, I don't know if it was the can of whoopass enriched with valour ++ that my troops keep in there back pockets or that my whole army crapped there pants leaving an undesirable stench to the battlefield or a combination of both. The rebels start taking mass casualties and I have the defending army almost routed off the field eeeeeeewwwwww the stench just got worse the rebel army is now crapping there pants lol. Well the most unexpected thing happens the defenders rout off the field and the battle stops. My only words are WTF I still have an enemy on the field and the battle ends and there is no routing armies, so I looked at the victory screen and to my surpise it said my army victory rebel army ALLIED victory and the defenders defeat. Gee don't rebels get the best battletactics on the field they can change sides anytime they went. So how about modding a rebel faction for multiplayer lol. Anyways I looked at the stats of the battle screen and saw a few of them gained valour and thought how nice a get a few free backstabbing troops for free so I get to the strategy map and they werent there. I guess they went into hiding to cause me trouble later. ( :

After making that last paragragh I was just reminded of all the bad times I went marching into a territory with a rebellion and I hate to say it but I lost all of them except the one I just mentioned (I'm a good commander I always try to put my bitter defeats behind me and forget about em only writing that last paragraph reminded me of this, I'll just state the worst of them all) I had rebels to the left and saw them marching towards the defender on equal ground. I'm on the bottom of the hill so I decide to get close to equal ground but not on top of the hill as to at least keep a safe distannce from the rebels or so I thought well what happens, I am surrounded by a volley of arrows from two sides, I'm in awe the rebels didnt have any archers, so whats goin on up in them trees in the hill. Well the rebels left them behind so I never saw them but I dont know its the rebels yet as I am trying to control the situation at hand with a halted army. I am ready to make a quick charge into battle as I am a very cofused commander at this point. Then I suddenly see the rebel army turn there flanks uh oh whats going on here. I get charged on the left flank and see a bunch of cavalry coming at me head on. COOL look at all the red and white flags on those banners. lol As I am retreating I see some rebel archers pop out of the woods with big smiles on there face. Be very wary of rebel armies as they get the very nice battle tactic of changing sides in a split second.

That sounds like one cool battle oaty. Too bad the rebels had not the stomach for battle or it could have been one for the history books.

As for the stench, I can get MrWhipple over here if you think it will help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
