I played The Egyptians. The Spanish attacked Egypt (the province)with a 2-1 force. So,I line up my army at the other end of the battlefield. The sun is burning the sand as hell, the desert wind blows the remains of one's reasonal thinking into ashes
The Spaniards begin the attack.I noticed their shiny, heavy armor from mile away. Are they mad?The desert does not forgive such arroganceIt took them couple of minutes marching toward me...and when they arrived - suddenly every unit turned around and began run as hell
This happend every time they attackedThey bring reinforcements, reinforcements start a death march towards me, and when they arrive, my army says: BOOO, and they flee
Marching long distances in heavy armor, under a desert sun is bad tactics http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
The battle ended with almost 0 casualites on both sides http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

What about you?

Then there are the ones whereby the enemy clearly re-thinks their decision to attack / hold their ground, and march straight back to their wives and children.

Often before you've issued any commands, too.

Same thing happened to me when I attacked the Saxons using the Welsh. We lined up for battle and the Saxons chose a hill to defend but his general and two catapults are placed on the foot of the hill. As I was marching my troops forward, I decided to get rid of the catapults as it was wrecking havoc on my Celtic Warriors. So I charged my General and another Royal Bodyguard. But when I got nearer his General, he marched back up the hill and all his troops followed suit and withdrew. They didnt run but just marched back to the edge of the map and quit. I followed hard after him and positioned my archers near the edge, waiting for his reinforcements to appear, but they never did. T'was weird.

My general doesnt have that many skulls or is better than the enemy, in fact they both have 4 stars. Is this a fluke or the other guy just forgot his lunch money and decided to call it quits? Anyway, I think it adds up to the unpredictability of an opponent be it even an AI.

Hm, my enemy never seem to run away from me straight away...
However, once I had a battle, English vs French, where I was defending and positioned my men on a hilltop.
When the battle started, the enemy appeared only a few meters away from me We charged each other head on, and after a short struggle they all turned tail and fled My casualties there were negligible, while I had captured or killed most of their army http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif A good battle, nonetheless.

Hello caspian. Thanks for joining us here at the Org.

The only thing stranger than these happenings is what goes on in the human mind. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Bridge Defence. A good Set-up, some arbs, and the job is done. Just wait for enemy waves to be crushed. Won 1vs5 without giving any orders once the battle began.

first i use the mongol cavalry archers to shoot them, then charged w/ mongol heavy cavalry. the peasants didn't even fight, they just ran away screaming like little girls. while my cavalry archer chased after them.

No Honour to be had in a slaughter http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In MP I once withdrew my units (save two cav archers to keep the guy running after them) and ceded the field after teh general had sent his units piecemeal at me to be sacrificededed. Missile fire destroyed most of them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

We had a nice chat regarding tactics after the game and a few battles later things had evened out a bit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Easiest battle I had was in VI as the Vikings.
The turn before I had conquered the province next to Munster with an army led by a Prince who had no loyalty as it turned out on inspection so I seperated the Princes unit(Huscarles iirc) from the army and left them alone in the province whilst the remainder of the army invaded Munster.

As expected there is a rebellion next turn and the Princes sole unit faces about 2500 rebels, so I'm thinking to myself at least that solves the problem of the disloyal son then, I decide to play the battle myself for laffs fully expecting the Huscarles to be overwhelmed by sheer numbers but lo n behold the Huscarles singlemindedly slaughter every unit that surrounds and engages them in combat, hundreds die on the rebel side as the basic command and orders for the Huscarles is attack unit A, then point and click at Unit B and on and on
7 or 8 mouse clicks and the battle is effectively over in my favour as the remaining rebs run for their lives http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Here (http://home.clara.net/ralphwolf/replay.zip) is my Replay for one of my easiest and most one-sided battles... The Germans invade me with superior numbers and a poor General, and face off against my 7 Star best general in Ile De France.

Count the Red Bodies if you can... Only 9 men Died on my side, Compared to the Sea of Black http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Bridge Defence is so Easy

Yeah, bridge defence is easy. But once(upon a time:),enemy force guarded a bridge.Seeing that they have no missile units and the first line of defence is made of peasants,I rained them with arrows untill they broke down and ran...
Then, my grunts entered the scene http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

easiest battle i had was 2 CMAA, 2 longbowmen, 2 royal knights, and 2 serpentein. the enemy was the HRE,

they had 5 xbowmen, 6 spearmen,6 knights, and some catapuls.

anyway, since i can't win h2h, i just sit there bastling the HRE, the HRE just sit there and 1 lucky shot kill the king http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . after that the enemy ran like dogs, i have more then 500 prisoners. needless to say, i excute them all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
