Medieval:

I may be imagining things, but it seems like when you get this message, it is not truly necessary to leave all of your opponents' provinces within two years, as requested.

All one really need do is make said provinces YOURS before that time is up: i.e., by storming all castles so that the provinces are not longer contested.

It seems like this is a way to sneak around being excommunicated, although it doesn't seem to work all the time.

Comments?

Basically that is all that he needs to be satidfied, for the fighting to stop and for you to leave them alone for 10 years. It gets costly when you are not ready for a castle stormin' when all you have are a few MA's and some archers and spears.

Hi

That's exactly what he tells u to do: to cease hostilities within 2 years

If u conquer the province, there u have it, no more hostilities http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

The pope usually has no more than 1-2 stars. Have a good assasin lurking nearby and... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

The Pope certainly does some strange things, I have had him excomm me and ask for an alliance in the one turn.(And also marry one of my daughters)

I try to do risky wars on catholics when the pope is in his 50's so the excomm doesn't last.

It also bugs me when over 60% one hostile action is often enough to get your warning , meanwhile the other guys attack you with impunity(especially your ships) and rarely get into trouble.

I'd just like to nuke the Pope early but I can't seem to suppress his re-emergence..... then again life wasn't meant to be easy...

How did you get the pope to marry one of your princesses?

Macedon has the right idea. I killed 5 popes in a row once with the same assassin.

The pope was eager to marry because it got rid of his child molester vice/virtue lol

The worst is when you meet all the rquiements, and its like the 9th year of peace, and then YOU get attacked by the faction you are war with, and get excommed... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

At first I hated the Pope, then I so looooove him.

Build a lot of crusade crosses.

Lure the other catholics to attack you. Withdraw your border garrison, leaving a small, high quality army that can defend against an invasion but will temp the AI to attack.

The next turn, move your troops back in, the AI will notice your lack of troops in the previous turn and may attack you. When they get excommed, crusade them

The Papacy has been my only ally that stayed allied with me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

because the 56 bug. when i get the warning, i will check the age of my king and the pope. if either of them is 50 or near 50. then i don't care about getting excommuntied. because if only gonna be a few years any way http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

With a little tweaking I've managed to conquer the Papacy without the re-emergence.

I stumbled across it by accident.

In the startpos files theres a section called:
"placeleader"
it tells u where the leader of a faction is placed.

I once modded the territory where the Pope himself to another faction, that means the Pope himself is on your territory and stuck there.

Here are the side effects.
You can kill the Pope and he won't do nothing at all.
You can take over his territory and he won't re-merge.
Hard to get Crusades approved.
Hard to be excommunicate.
Make the Pope a puppet and make him useless since he can't do anything.

Playing as the Byzantine, it helped in that the Catholic factions can't raise a Crusade against me and that the Pope does not re-merge with a freakin huge army.

Just use Grand Inquisitors and burn the Pope. Although these leaves you with a very odd error message (ie they never wrote in that "The leader of the Papists has been burned).

I have never Burned a Pope before... When I tried, with a Grand Inquisitor who was rank 5, even with 100% Zeal I only had a 25% chance of killing him.

Talk about hard.
