I assume you want to set up a battle, with unit restrictions, custom map etc. I'm in for that, Seljuk or Byzantine no matter.

you have to give the turks a lot of cavalry archers and light cavalry. because that's what the whole army was like.

maybe you should have 2 byzantine armies, because if i remember correcly(sp)one of the army decide to not help the other army because of disloyal general( i think he was a royalty, i may be wrong)and the whole army was mercanies(sp)

Hehe in normal game vs equally skilled opponents, there is noway you can win the battle of Manzikert IMO. Is it like a movie recreating the exact battle of Manizkert or are you just setting up the conditions of Manizkert and seeing if the Byzantine can turn the outcome of the battle around?

I am currently modding an Arab Invasions campaign mod but I haven't touched the troop stats yet, count me in.

I want to be the treacherous Andronicus Ducas who turns the complexion of the battle and leaves Emperor Romanus Diogenes to be surrounded by the Seljuks (and yes, even outnumbered halfway through the battle).

While Romanus Diogenes had a great record against the Seljuk Turks prior to Manizkert and was a very capable general in his own right, there is not much you can do about treachery on the field. After that, well defeat is always assured.
What normal game are you talking about. Battles are never assured before it is fought, during maybe, but never before. So while I can understand the sentiments of Turcoman horses beating the Kataphraktoi(mobility and harassment) I can never say what is and what is assured.
As you should know, the Byzantines have a long experience against lighter and mobile enemies, therefore, highlighting the precarious nature of claiming absolutes.

well then, how about on the strategic map, you make 2 stacks. 1 stack represents romanus Diogenes part of the army and the other represents ducas's part of the army. And when it's ducas's turn to move into the manzikert part of the map, the person rp'ing him should just press the call off the attack button.

I'll have to do more research on Manizkert, perhaps we all can compare notes and post some common points of agreement on the execution of this battle.
Put your name under the faction you want to play for and we'll sort out the units they control and their role.

The more people in this - the easier the execution. Seljuk Sinan must be licking his lips at capturing Diogenes.

kata, i just ran a LAN test. it's optimal with a 2v2 strategy. And use lots of alan mercenary cavalry.
