View Full Version : Problems with Wes Mod 1.85 - please help!

I installed Wes Mod 1.85 last night, over MTW 1.1 (NOT VI) and was looking forward to the changes included. Unfortunately, things didn't go smoothly at all

- When the game is loading, I get a Windows dialog box reporting an error about ArabInfantry. This is fine, because if you click OK then the game loads normally.

- When I tried to start a game though, I got an error about a missing file - tavern1.bif - and the game refused to start. So I copied the file tavern.bif and renamed it to tavern1.bif to get around the problem. I ended up having to do this up to tavern4.bif and brothel1..4.bif as well...

- Once in the game (after a while), I noticed that NONE of my missile units are firing (They all now say in their description Cannot fire in the rain - even Archers, Longbowmen, Crossbowmen) It wasn't raining though, and when I clicked on an enemy unit they walked right up to them and attacked them in melee - even though the cursor being displayed was the arrow cursor (although it was red, not green - I figured they were just out of range...), not the sword cursor.

Can anybody help me with this? What did I do wrong?

I'm really looking forward to playing this mod, but at this rate, it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall MTW just to get things working properly again... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Something else to mention that I forgot about earlier:

- In the main menu, the title graphic has changed and now says Viking Invasion. I definitely do NOT have VI installed, and I downloaded the v 1.85 of med mod, so I don't know why that's appeared...

Hello ceedee and welcome. WesW sometimes pops in here and answers questions. In the meantime, have you read the Med Mod topic in the Dungeon forum? There is no such problem posted there?

Thanks Gregoshi - I read through the 1.84 thread, but couldn't find a specific one for 1.85. I also did a search for problems along the lines of the ones I was having, but to no avail.

(I'm not a newbie to Internet forums, so before I asked a really dumb question that's been answered a million times before, I thought it best to search...)

Maybe something funny was added in 1.85 that broke things - is there anywhere I can get a copy of 1.84? (never tried it, so I don't know if it will fix things - just looking to get a 'working' MTW install ASAP&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I must admit that in realistic terms, I have no idea how to help you out here. However WesW will probably be able to help you out.

Before then (I must warn you this will be tedious), you should try this.

Uninstall medieval and completely reinstall it, then apply the mod again.
When applying the mod, install it into an empty folder, rather than the medieval folder, then manually put all the files in the right places yourself.
Before doing either of these, redownload the mod. It's unlikely, but the download may have been corrupted somehow.

Sorry I can't offer help beyond this. I will investigate however on your behalf. I'm sure we can all get to the bottom of this.

EEUURAAH.

Roger ceedee - you'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many people don't take the time to search. Sometimes we have two posts on the same topic posted within an hour or two of each other. Oh well.

BTW, I copied your post to the last MTW Med Mod topic (before VI) I found. You can find it here (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=3127;st=25;r=1;&#entry118396).

Hi,

I brought these 1.85 problems to the attention of Wes through email. I'm getting the exact same issues as ceedee...

ArabInfantry parsing error on startup.
LoadImages couldn't find Tavern1.bif.
Initmap Unknown error.

Wes seemed to think it was something wrong with my system. I hope he looks into it further.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif It's a double play Greetings and welcome to both Foxfire and Jubilex. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Four people with the same problem seems like a bad download file. And WesW had confirmed that in the Dungeon. He accidentally let slip some VI entries in the 1.85 mod. He's backed out the VI stuff and has made it available for download, but he hasn't tested it. If you experience any problems, report it in the Dungeon topic if you can post there or here in this thread if you can't post to the Dungeon.

Yep, seems mostly fine now - there's still the ArabInfantry problem when you load the game, but that doesn't seem to affect anything else.
