i always have allies in this game, but for some reason they hardly help u fight an enemy that near me.
my allie will not help me when i attack an enemy or when the enemy is attacking me. and my allie is near. why???

Allies helping you does seem to be rare, but you can help your allies. And they are most appreciative - until the cheatin' traitors stab you in the back 10 years later Ahem, sorry, lost control. I'm alright now. Really.

Allies often jump in to help when your invading Rebels more than other factions... but sometimes they do like to have a pop at your rival as well.
Are there any trade bonuses from having a faction as an allie? Are they, essentially, the same as a neutral faction, but (theoretically) less likely to attack you?

Basically you can expect your allies to attack you before anybody else. Basically. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

They basically do that when you get too powerful and big for your boots.
Basically you reach a point in the game when the AI decides to gang the factions up against you because your doing too well.
Well the game is called total war after all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

An old topic this is...
I remember voicing my dissaproval on it some time ago. Try doing a search on the forum, you will surely find some interesting records...
I had English as an ally once, they actually helped me out. We both made a lot of profit from trading with each other, and they lifted a couple of sieges for me, and then withdrew from the province. So it's not always bad...

I wouldn't say they help you with rebels, but I think there more intent on taking the province in dispute before you do LOL
I never bother trying to ally with anyone because in the end as the posts have said before it all comes to nothing. With the exception of the Papacy it seems there less likely to have a go at you as a non christian faction if your allied. Just never leave a province bordering the Pope with no support, 9 times out of 10 he won't resisit the temptation http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
