hey there,

im working on some new units and i have some images im working on in PS, im wanting to change the unit icon pictures on the strat map, similar to what lord krazy did with some of the 69 unit pack.

what exact files do i need to make? what are the pixel size dimensions needed? file type? where exactly do they need to be placed? that kind of stuff

thx http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

If you mean the unit icons in battles, you need a pic 50x50. Or open up one of the originals they're in MTW\battle\uniticons in LBM format so editable in PSP.

There are also the panel icons for the campaign map. These are in campmap\review_panel\units and in Bif format, so you need to import these using the bif reader.

Also, if you want to make it look even more authentic you should give the unit a proper info pic (when you right button on a unit and it's description appears, the faded image that appears on the parchment.) Although unless you are a very good graphics whizz you should simply copy one of the originals which looks close to what you want. These are in campmap\info_pics again in Bif format.

thx http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ,

i got the most recent bifreader application from the org, however, when i try to import a .bmp the application freezes, guess my comp sucks, plus im not too familiar with what to do http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

also when i tried to import it said my bmp was over 256 colors, im not a graphics whiz - so i dont know what im doing wrong http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

There are a number of threads in the dungeon that explain this process. if you do a search you should be able to find them. if you still have problems email me and i will walk you through it. its pretty simple once you know what to do and how.

Open up the bmp in a paint package and look for an option to decrease the colours. In PSP you click colours>decrease colour depth> and you want 256colours (8 bit.) Save

When you import the picture you might see all the colours go wrong, that's the palette not being loaded. Thought I'd solved this but seemingly the reader still has problems loading some palettes.

Check the Adding new factions to VI thread pinned near the top there are some problems when you save bifs and it explains top of page 7 how to solve this.

Not sure why yours is freezing though
