View Full Version : Is there a STW server or not?
Ive never been able to log in from my STW original disks and EA support just mumbled a bit and told me to keep trying.
Just curious. Is anyone with STW original able to find the server or does it just always come up with error login in? or just not connect?
No one seems prepared to say even yes or no anywhere ive looked at Org.
Thanks

Konnichiwa Celtlan...
it is my understanding that the old STW server is permanenetly down, and has been for some time now... of course, WE/MI is running as you well no, but i'm prettty sure that the old one is down for good....
hope this helps,
Z
Konnichiwa,
It's possible to play the original STW on the STW WE/MI server.
The 2 games used the same server, just different ports.
The info is stored in plain text in Internet.cfg in the STW directory.
ChatserverIPAddress = daphne.eagames.co.uk
ChatserverPort = 8794
NewsserverIPAddress = daphne.eagames.co.uk
NewsserverPort = 8797
ShogunTotalWarWebsite = www.totalwar.com
STW uses ChatserverPort = 8793
Edit: Playing STW on the WE server requires a CD-key for the latter. Thanks to Celtlan for pointing this out.
An alternative is RSW's fakeserver, an excellent and easy to use tool for running a matchmaking server yourself. http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Tools.shtml first file below the Shogun header.
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Pity they wont tell you that though.

Very very helpful to know that you can change the settings on the STW vanilla version. We should publisise this a little more for all those people like me who have been buying the original on budget to find they can not play online. Mabey EA support could recomend this as a fix for them so that they can at least set up a game room for the original version on the MI/WE server they at least they can get to play and hopefully get a taste to move into MTW or others.
Is there anyway we could ask EA to advise this for people. like when they register send them an email.
It should not take much effort from EA to do and they are still making money on the budget title.

I don't think EA will have much affiliation with the game at all anymore, so any effort on their behalf would be miraculous in my opinion http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Oh, actually, they probably get a cut of each sale made, pocket/spend this and think nothing more of it.

I'd be up for some battle on the old server, if anyone is interested. Would be nice to see the differences from MI.
I'm also able to login to the original STW server. I run Win98se and STW v1.12 on a Voodoo 3/3000 video card.

Works fine for me, although its empty.
Because EA decided they wouldnt allow direct play over the internet, once the server gets shuts down, there will be no way to play online.
I wonder where the server is and who manages it?http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There is of course the fakeserver option to fall back on.I know of two of my online comrades that have shown an interest in hosting the server,but whoever does this must maintain a constant service or interest will dwindle.They must also have the capacity to host 20+ players in the forum as happens on many weekends.The fakeserver download must be well advertised in the community too.
A tall order and time is running out but rest assured we 'the diehards'http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif havent given up hope

There is always Barocca's mod as an alternative.
I have it installed already (the beta 5)

Hi Shinano
Believe me it will be well worth the expense getting VI.
The Barocca mod is terrific and with EA pulling the plug what more incentive do you need. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif

The incentive is there, the money for a new computer that could run VI is not http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-sick.gif Currently I have a 1 mb video card and 64 mb of ram http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
