Kensai!

These bigger version of NDs, running solely on the battlefield looking for trouble...

so... how do you guys use these legendary swordsmen?

I tend not to use them online...but they can be good when put in a position that protects them from being flanked, rear attacked etc...especially defending bridges and castles.

I find them good for breaking sieges, espcially if attacking. In one campaign I had an army of 10 Kensi, all full armour and weapons, the general was rank 6. It was undefeatable. I could send it against a defending citadel with about 700 troops and take no loses!

They're also useful for bridge assaults where their high armour is good for soaking up arrows and all the arrows concentrate on him while you run all your other units across.

Use them for delaying tactics against cheap to moderate units. They can last long but once their exhausted, they're dead. So don't forget to watch your kensai's condition.

They make really good distractions for the AI. I send them across bridges to draw some of the defenders away, allowing me to get some of my units across unmolested. It works sometimes, other times it doesn't.

Depends on the state of the enemy. If you have high honour Kensi and your attacking a castle and the enemy have lost their taisho and are just running around in the castle they're very much dead meat whatever your Kensi's condition http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I dunno Zone, I've had decent honor Kensai (with legendary everything) die in fairly short order alone & unsupported in a castle assault. I once had a Kensai killed by a half dozen Arques! Talk about bizarre!

If you have several they work very well. The trouble with only 1 is that their honour suffers and I find they're far more vulnerable.
