View Full Version : VI: Are massive income drops normal?

Just got VI, and am a bit shocked by some of the income drops. My first invasion was launched at the Orkney Islands; before I took it, the income was over 200 I think; after I took it, it dropped to 20. Is this normal? Why is it happening? It doesn't seem like my destruction of some of the buildings could account for such a massive drop.

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Do you use autotaxing? If so, you've just moved army from a province, meaning the taxes were probably lowered in it.

I checked, and it only happens with the Vikings.

I am not sure if I have autotaxing on or off-- how would I check that? And how do you use autotaking?

Were you "trading" with the enemy *before* you attacked? If so, all trade income from the enemy ceases once war breaks out. When you have a lot of trade going on, the need to pick your enemy carefully is great.

I believe what you referring to here is the effect of Abbey destruction. If the vikings conquer a territory the Abbey is destroyed (raided) by default. Abbey income is in the range of 230 per turn: seems exactly the extent of the drop in income you observed.

Another plausible explanation is loss of trade income: i.e., (1) you lose your opponent as a trading partner after attacking its territory; (2) the conquered territory loses its trade income if the port and/or merchant gets destroyed during the attack.

I believe you destroyed the farming improvements. they are worth at least 80 per turn.

Ahhh, I think it might be the abbey. I didn't know abbeys contributed to much money. I don't think it was trade, as I had not yet built any trading buildings in my territory, and he had no ships at all, although I did have ships linking the pictish territories to mine.

I'll recheck it again tonight.
