Well, I've got this ancient 3dfx Voodoo Banshee video card and I just bought Medieval; Shogun seemed to work just fine,
but here all non-3d graphics items (like trees and troops) have this black rectangle around them and it just looks like crap. Is there any way to solve this without buying a new video card (maybe some drivers or tweaks)? 'Cause I can't afford buying both a video card and the Viking Invasion xpack right now. I really like this game and this kinda spoils it. Imagine having black squares for knights.

There is supposed to be a thread concerning 3DFX cards in the apothecacy. Look around and hopefully you can solve the problem.

You had the same problem, i had it with my Vodoo 3 card when i first put the game on. I fixed it by cutting back to the bare essentials in the game in other words no fancy stuff, 16 bit graphics not 32, 800by600 not 1240by720 and i also downloaded the latest drivers from www.voodoofiles.com it did fix the problem for me but your card is still one behind mine. You have nothing to lose and try the third party dirvers.

Hello Akella and thanks for joining us here at the Org. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

dlundie has some great suggestions. Like him, I used to have a Voodoo3 card and played MTW fine. The best thing you can do is as dlundie said and go to this (http://www.voodoofiles.com/type.asp?cat_id=1&Sort=ClickCount&Orders=DESC) page on voodoofiles.com. It has all the 3dfx 3rd party drivers. Sort the list by download count (logic: most download = good word-of-mouth feedback). There are a number of drivers for Banshees. Look for one made for DirectX8 or DirectX9. Also pay attention to the Windows version it was made for.

Here is one for WinXP: Banshee/XP driver (http://www.voodoofiles.com/4807)

Here is one for Win9x & WinME: Xpentor driver (http://www.voodoofiles.com/4451) (DirectX8 compatible)

You can sort through the others.

Good luck and let us know if you had any success.

Thanks a bunch, guys, I'll try your stuff out, see what works best. I haven't been able to reply until now because mail.com malfunctioned and that's where I kept the mail with the password for this forum. Btw, mail.com still doesn't work, but I finally remembered my password.
Thanks again, I'll let you know if it works
