Do I have to have them hosted somewhere online already?

That is best... otherwise the picture disappears when you are off-line.

To put the image in your post you click on the Image button in the iB Code Buttons Row while writing your post, a text box should open and you type the path to the picture that you want to use ie. in my box I type http://wise.net.nz/users/robm/angryfog.gif and press enter... and img markers should appear on each side of your pictures pathway. You can check that your picture will appear by using the preview post button...if the pathway is correct you picture will appear... if not then either the path is wrong, you have mispelt something or you are trying to use an unsupported picture format.

I just keep using the preview post funtion until every thing is the way I want it ( I make a lot of alterations http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif )... before posting the finished post.

My ISP supplies me with the space to store some files, as part of the connection and I upload stuff to it with WS_FTP95LE (freeware)... Some of the other guys know of free suppliers of online caches.

the one other criterion is that your server, where you post the images, has to allow remote linking/viewing. some dont, some do.
