View Full Version : Quick Battle Problem

I have full install of MTW with Viking Invasion, running on XP with LOTS of RAM and memory on a Pent IV 2.4 gig. Every time I start a Quick Battle it starts with EXACTLY the same battle, Italians defending against French on the FLATINLAND17 map. If I simply ESC and say I give up, it will return me to the screen where I can opt to play a different battle, THEN it gives me a new random battle. Anyone know why I always get stuck w/same starting battle and is there any way to avoid that?

Hello recmanjb. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Welcome to the Org.

There hasn't been much discussion about quick battles, but read this (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=4257;hl=quick+and+battle) topic. It apparently is very random and there are only 15 setup.

I know what you mean.

I would invariably get the Spaniards, looking down a huge valley on the Almos. They have arbs, I get arquebusiers. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

And on the few occasions that I didn't get this battle, I'd get the other Spain vs. Almo battle.

Dig through the MTW directories, looking for one named Quickstart. Cut the files out of this and paste them in the folder reserved for late custom battles (whatever it is named, you'll find it somewhere). Then, open the game, select Single Player, Custom Battle, Late, and test each configuration in turn, keeping, discarding or altering it as you will.

When you're done, move the remaining files back to Quickstart.

Now, whenever I hit Quick Battle I play as the English, with lots an' lotsa longbows and billmen

Poor French. Poor, poor French... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You can also add your own quick battles to the list. Check this topic (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=2623;hl=mtw+and+quick+and+battle) in the Dungeon on how to do it.
