Med Mod2 spearmen changed?

just tried out the early period in MTW VI + MedMod2 and noticed that my Spearmen now look the same as the ones in the Viking era, and i`m also able to produce Fyrdmen as well, is this to be expected? or is it another quirk of the game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

This could probably be a new topic, but nevertheless...
Some nations now have roundshield spearmen instead of the old squareshield ones. Their stats are the same, and they are identical in all respects, except for the visual flavour. I guess this is because of the historical accuracy, and people complaining that square shields were not appropriate for some nations.
Yes, you can build fyrdmen in England in MTW, the manual is wrong in stating that they are rebel only. You need a spearmaker to train them. Check the middle page of the VI manual for other new units info (such as which nations have roundshield spearmen).

As you can see Rus Spear are probably the best with Armoured Spera 2nd closely followed by Frydmen in 3rd

Actually spearmen are just peasants called up and equipped with spears. Fyrdmen are simply the older 'saxonised' version and yeah, they're better. They have one better attack and,.. apparently,.. better morale. I thought the morale was the same though. Costwise, I'm not sure of the difference, discounting discounts, eheh :]

In later versions of the VI MedMod, I expect the English will no longer have spearmen, these being replaced by Fyrdmen. I also think some stats will change.

Fyrdmen are pretty much the same as feudal sergeants, but they can be recruited by having a spearmaker, instead of a spearmaker's workshop (note: I corrected my previous post). Also, they have less of a chance of producing a good general than FS.

Hmmmm...actually, what happened was that the Scilians started with a unit of square shields, but so far I don't believe that the can train them.

just conquered Ireland in early period, and found out i now have the ability to produce Celtic Warriors as well as Kerns and Gallowglasses, but if you play viking period you don`t get them in Ireland at all

The unit stats haven't been touched for the NoUnits mod, hence the name, but I did switch provincial ownership around some, so perhaps the Sicilians now have a province that used to belong to a faction with the other type of Spearmen. I didn't realize before that the Round type was even *in* the regular campaigns.
