Here is a challenge for the people around here:

As the napoleonic mod get together, I would love to have new battle maps replacing the castle maps.
The idea is that we could have sieges of big cities(moscow, Paris..) instead of the castles that will not fit with the atmosphere of the mod.
So here is a challenge:
Are you into making maps ?
Do you want to play an active part in the development of the Napoleonic Mod?

If "yes" then we (the lords) need you
For those interested, please post a reply here.
Some of the cities to make are : Paris, Moscow, London, Vienna.....or any generic city with or without walls (note that the fortification in the napoleonic time were different than from the medieval).

I hope many will join to help to make this mod the best possible http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

A plus

I dont see how you guys could do it...

We in the LOTR mod have tried and failed to edit the in battle building shapes and textures. they are in an format that we cant open ( .3xx, and .txx) I think they are a format from one of CA's own apps. In other words we cant mod these files unless CA is kind enough to release whatever they used.

So that means you cant really modernise the buildings enough to represent a Nap era city. Plus no landmarks etc... How do you suggest to represent the fortifications?

In our mod we can get away with the sort of buildings, and their textures that are in the game because they arent that different from what Tolkien's world has.

However, if someone does know how to edit these mysterious files PLEASE let us know, it would mean we could properly recreate various landmarks for BOTH of these mods. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes,

I agree with you.
I was just talking about replacing the castles with houses to represent the bigger city we can. From what I did yesterday, you can put around 80 houses or so....
I don't know if it will be possible to redo the texture of the houses or to redo the models..that will be great but I doubt (like you).

Alrowan already did this. I can't remember the name of the map, but he already made a map with about 50% of it being city. Go get him.

I have read old posts by Barocca who also was able to mod the Models so to speak, he stated if I read it correctly , he is able to change the skins of the existing models to give the buildings a different look, I have communicated with him on this and he stated all he needs are proper pics from which to make the skins by, He might have an answer to this.

That would be great news for both of our projects http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Please keep us informed if you find out any information about this.

Can you maybe give a link for these old posts? I am VERY interested in this news http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hello I have tried removing castles and replacing them with cities for my ecw mod but it renders the map useless as a castle map as the units are placed anywhere on the map in a random fashion.the only way I've done it is to leave the outer wall of the castle on the map and pack it full of houses and churches which is ok but I'd like to see earth works and defences of that time and of course larger cities with rivers and bridges,is there a way to do this? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Cheers M.E http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
