Thought those grey dudes just sit at home and admire their furnishings. So I left those who are rebels from the start of the game alone to concentrate on other factions. Those rebels which were part of a faction has the chance of having a faction remergence and have to be bullied.

Imagine my shock when those original rebels invade and took a province from me.

But íts not usual, I´ve sen it couple of times, both of them at Khazar. And perhaps at Muscowy too, seems that those eastern rebels are more agressive.

It often depends on how many troops the rebels have, and whether they possess more than one province (look for their colour code). If answer to both is yes, then it's likely they will shift troops and even attack provinces they think they could take.

Yes, they'll invade, reinforce each other and attack together, but not very often. I remember having a rebel governor of Lithuania situated all the way in Georgia once.

Especially civil war rebels can be quiet aggressive. I once watched a French civil war waging forth and back all over Europe.

As England I took Scotland early but then lost it to rebellion - there were some 1500 rebels and every year for the next five years some of them kept invading Northumbria until I beefed up the garrison in Northumbria from 300 to approx 700 men.

Watch out for rebels sending assassins after you too. I was very shocked to see that the first time. I was the Italians and was crusading thru a rebel owned Spain and they got pissed off at me for stealing all their troops and started trying to assassinate my generals and king. Quite the surprise.

Rebel usually only attack when the odds are very favourable to them. I guess the formula they use to calculate if they should or not invade is different from the one of major factions.

Surely not, I have never seen the rebels use agents in any way

They will use assassins if they have the means to produce them.

In this case they also started trying to burn my guys with inquisitors. This was the Spanish empire that had a king die with no heirs (pre VI) and all the infrastructure was still in place and they acted much like they would have if they were still Spanish. Oh, and they were all the same color, so they were all the same rebels.
