I've never enabled the Novgorod as playable and am wondering if there are any issues with the Russians emerging. Do you as the player just become the Russians or are there 2 different factions that co-exist (the Novgorod and Russians..)?

I recall reading that this causes issues. Could anyone please elaborate?

Thanks

If you allow them to be playable in early then that just means you will play them. Then when high period rolls around you continue to be them and no name change or Russians appearing because they are the smae except for a few small changes.

You may have trouble getting titles. When you build structures that grant titles, none will appear. I believe this happens if all you do is change People of Novgorod from Faction_MINOR to Faction_MAJOR. I can't remember if the same problem occurs if you copy over the PoN with the data from another faction.

On a similar note, anyone have experience with modding burgundy, swiss, or russia into the "early" era as a faction and then having troubles when they are "suppossed" to emerge? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I have made Novgorod playable, just change it to ft_Major and you can play it. Just dont play past early period without making the proper changes in the Startpos file.

So, just to confirm:

If you enable the Novgorod you effectively disable the Russians from emerging. Correct?

I know you can enable the Novgorods. I am trying to find out IF that prevents the Russians from emerging.

Also, does anyone know if there is a problem if you enable both the Russians and Novgorod in the early period? I know about the leader/king bug issue and am wondering if there is an easy workaround.

Thanks

I like to play the Nowgorod faction in Early. Upt to 1260 (after the Mongols) no problems, no Russian faction. Except you can not use the GA button (crash back to desktop) while playing the GA version.
Happy hunting

I experimented with adding both the Russians and Novgorod as playble in the early campaign. The game crashed, but looking at the early.txt I noticed that the Russians didnt have an entry for their starting king. When I added this, the game seemed to run smoothly.

Has anyone tried this? Might be a way to squeeze out an extra faction safely with adding a risky new one.

The Russians don't emerge. They're a selectable faction if you start the game in high or late, but if you start in early then you get the People of Novgorod for the duration of your game (or their lifespan).
