What about a beta demo?

I think that the CA should release a beta demo of RTW, before the game is released. It is cruelty looking at all those previews and not having the game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif besides, this will surely make people want to buy it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif ie. a demo like the medieval's (battle tutorial) would be good, or maybe a demo only with custom battle 1 map, 2 nations, or something similar...

The original STW was released May/June 2000. There was an alpha demo in January 2000. Thorgrim made a 'hack' that disabled a checksum thingy (?) so custom battles could be made. We had lots of fun with that.The MTW demo was of the same idea, but didn't need the hack to allow custom battles.

Something to toy with will be good for us now, could provide CA valuable feedback, could be good advertising and could improve the final product. Yes, I'am all for it, though I understand security and resources concerns too.

I think that even if such a thing is being considered it could be quite a while before we even find out what with the apparent uncertainty surrounding the eventual release date.
