View Full Version : MTW and MTW/VI Log File Reader
There are several excellent logfile readers out there. This one is not as good, but is web-based, so there is no need to download any program. Just chose the log file and press 'Analyse' to read it.

Ah you have done Ugly right proud Very nice. I will use it instead of the others since I do not like to download programs onto my pristine hard drive to look at my logfiles. hehe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
hmmmm, couls someone enlighten a poor newbie, please.
What is a logfile ? What is so good about reading them ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I am sure the answer is somewhere in one of the many posts of this Forum, but if someone in the know could give me a quick answer, that would be real nice.
Thanks,
Nigel

In MTW options, there is one about saving 'logfiles'. Thoses are text sum up of the battle, with all upgrades per units, kills, routed, captured all that. They are saved in the logfiles folder.
You see the screen you have at the end of the battle? With your units, their kills, all that? Well, imagine that for all armies, not only your own.
Why is it interesting? It gives lot of information about units used by your opponents, what upgrade they use, and what are the most efficient.
Why a logfile reader? Going throught a logfile in a text format is somehow... cumbersome... Hence the idea of putting it together in an easy to read template, which is what is achieved by An logfile reader.
Hope it answers your question,
Louis,
Good one Annie
Tell me something folks: what are the dangers of the Wolf logfile reader ? are their any ? if so is that why that one has not been mentioned here ?
Nice work Annie http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Have been mentionned here;
Wolf logfile reader (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=18;t=8365)
And to be fair, there is also a great Bear logfile reader, and without doubt plenty of other logfile readers. Feel free to also promote those Sinan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.
I don't think there is any issue using any of those, but like Elmo, I appreciate the fact that this one is webbased, that you don't have to dl anything, and put some .dll into some operating folder to get it to work.
It really makes it easy to use, and IMO somehow better than other logfile readers. So I bump this thread thinking this tool deserves a wider audience. I am not going to bump all logfile readers thread http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif... but again feel free to do so Sinan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Louis,
If you use the wolf logfile reader at fullmoon you will turn into a werwolf and you will be compelled to use cav archer heavy armies till the end of times http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Things make a lot more sense now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Very useful tool indeed. Good job, Annie.
Now about this wolf-reader that does those strange things at full moon ..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
The newer version of log reader is:
Log Read Vesion 1.2c (http://www.thiep.com/cgi-bin/ffmtw/logread12.pl)
This now has stats incorporated, so you could also see what is killing you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif It works only on viking invasion (v2.0).
