in the game which faction gives you the run

i wanted to find out , when you play your favourite faction which AI faction gives you the most challange and makes your game enjoyable

for me when i play BZY uts always TURKS
and when i play ALMO its always the spainish who make it tough for me on iberian peninsula.

i dont like their light calvary or their inf as they give my troops a really hard time

with turks i find difficulties coping with their excelent calvary archers and janis inf

after i mdded the slav warriors slightly because Poland only used them and they were wiped out easily by everything. I modded the Hungarian peasants to not throw spears but made them more powerull and made themneed a spearmakers workshop.

When when im Byz 2 important things happen.
Hungary attack me and now it is hard to stop them and the Turks at the same time exactly as it was historically.

But the weirdest is that for some reason the Poles absolutly crush the HRE and then the French take a the western lands

I constantly find the muslims to be tougher on the battlefield than Europeans.

I think the French are definetly the weakest on the battlefield. I think every English campaign ive played has been saved by me capturing the French king and getting a ransom. I made 30,000+ off that process in 4 turns last game.

Mongols are the toughest for me. If I had their units and some good generals, I would hire some mercenary siege weapons, and obliterate all the other factions with no sweat.

For some reason, if I lose a battle in a campaign, I'll always lose it to the Hungarians. Nothing special about them I guess, but it always happens, and it's always a major defeat, not just some small skirmish. Of course, I lose other battles as well, but it has to be the Hungarians at least once every time. And what do you know, now I'm playing the Hungarians, and haven't lost a single battle yet... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The only factions that really can annoy me are the Mongols/Golden Horde and the Papacy, because it always makes me a lot of Catholic enemies. :>

But always the mongols. I personally like killing them off in the first turn they arrive, (if i own khazar of course).

I have done this several times and they would have beaten me in most of them if they would do one thing, MELEE WITH YOUR @*?ING MONGOL HORSE ARCHERS.

I would have to say I agree totally with you there Jacque.

Its always either the Egyptians or the Byzantines who get out on top and conquer the whole eastern side of the map... depends on the outcome of their power struggle I guess.

In most of my campaigns, its the spanish that dominates.

In VI there is something about the Turks. They dont get wiped out anymore and seem harder to destroy

With byz it is usually a tie between the turks and egyptians and with the italians usually the Hungarians give me the biggest headaches

The Spanish in the West and the Egyptians in the East. And the Pope. The Mongols can be a problem when playing the Turks, Byz, Russian/Novogorod, but if you are a western faction you can use the arrival of the Horde to your advantage.

But the one constant problem/threat in every game are the damn Italian and Sicilian navies.

Usually the Byz and egyptians give me the most headaches. I usually play in early so the almos sometimes pop up and give me problems. Other than that...its usually pretty predictable

Playing a west european faction Byz are allways a trouble. They control a big zone, so they can use in deep defense tactics, and they have good units ( in early game ).

In my campaing I reach Byz zone exausted of war years, my support lines are long and sloowly and I have in my border a big Empire waiting ... bad thing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I've mostly been playing as the English recently, I tend to find that the Elmo-heads and the Byzantines are usually trouble late in the game.

When I play the Byz it is the HRE or the Golden Hord that drives me nuts and when I play the HRE is the Byz that is the real problem if they get going.
