Just a question. Is ur generals death by missile fire completely random or is the probability something that has been changed with the patch?
Just that several people i have spoken to now have encountered a large number of battles now where their Taisho has died first volley from a musk at max range when that unit was not even being targeted. 2 men in the gen unit died one of which was general. Seems to be happening more as a result of indirect fire rather than targeted fire.
This is not a complaint as such. Just a question. its very inconvenient when ur general dies bfore u even move a unit. lol.

It may not seem as much of a problem as the sync debate....but will have major implications in battles....so best to address this now....in the two case I have witnessed both the gens were cav......max range...one was arrows other was guns...one unit lost 2 men the other 3..non were targets of fire..as you know your gen is at the back...now hmmm...bad luck?....doubt it.
The problem I see is that people will go for your gen...which is fine...but this will lead to people leaving the gen way back...thus making the army rather worried...and we will see the developement of more 'spoiling' tactics we all wish to avoid.....Reports here plz.....or even try this out....but then again it may only happen when gen not main target...

Its Vanyas Imperial Musketeers Agador and Kong from the next province.
Lol, and who knows, maybe it's Fatsumo who has no idea where he's shooting http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Fight first, then scream 'Doh, why did I forget my Kensi!'
accuratcy of musket is raised from 0.12 to 0.17 in this new patch. and missile units always aim for the man with the banner in a unit. so there is a greater chance gen get killed by guns if u leave it in front.

http://chat.carleton.ca/~fbai/pix/withstupid.gif Oh yeah? I don't think so.
i noticed, that my gungen work very well again. mostly he hold till they waver, than i pull my gen back.
as cav, same, gen fight till 20 ...around..
sure, it happend sometimes that he ge killed earlyer. but this chance is ver low.

RageFury,
More kills from gunfire do occur in the targetted unit now, and less in non-targetted units than in v1.01. These guns are still very powerful. Overall, the v1.02 guns are weaker, but not on the targetted unit. Putting non-ranged units in the range of gunfire will be costly. Also, cav is easier to hit than infantry, but it has always been that way. There is probably a tendency now to make HC or NC the taisho, and he will be more vulnerable to guns.
RageMonsta,
It was bad luck in the case of the archers. The archers were not changed except for longer reload. People always go after the taisho, and even in STW leaving the taisho back was a common tactic. The taisho does nothing for your army's morale unless he is quite close, and then he is at risk of being killed. The morale boost he provides is quite modest, but the morale hit you take if he's killed is quite large. It's a trade off, and a tactical decision to be made.
I think the tactical possibilities are greater now, but it is at the cost of some old tactics no longer being effective. I'm quite comfortable with it after a month of playing, and staying away from v1.01. However, I was nailed twice by monk 'n gun armies that two other beta testers just blew away. So, I'm still learning as well.

Last night, something really weird happened.
I was playing Takeda campaign. Uesugi and Hojo made alliance and attacked me together in musashi. Lord Hojo led the charge and his body guards were chopped down to 2. But I decided to let him go, and ordered my troops back into defensive position for the incoming 1000+ Uesugi.
Meanwhile, Hojo and his two fellows were charging backwards toward their hometown, soon ran out of my camera range.
But all the sudden, I heard the message: Lord Hojo was killed in battle!
At that time, all my troops were sitting still, and none is under hostile misile fire.
What the hell? He had a heart-attack or something?

The deaths were more like those described by Gothmog...very strange...in many ways almost automatic....like i said neither times was the fire aim directly at the Gen.... in my vast experience...(if you can call it that)never have I seen this happen so fast....and never in 2 games following on....once to me and then to Exe.....and as you may know we are not the type of players to waste our Gens easy....
so can anybody else give an example of a HVY CAV gen dying from stray fire of the first volley in a battle....and also to suffer 2/3 casualties and 1 being your gen?
If your gen is in the front row and your unit is 12 men wide then he has a reasonable chance of being the one hit if the unit is hit...unfortunately.
