Here's an idea that has been rattling around in my head since Shogun's early days, the ability to select a specific weather condition for custom battles. A simple list of weathers could be added next to the season selector. If you want a random weather you select a season like in STW/MTW, if you want a more specific weather you just select that instead. Why do I want this feature?
1. When I'm trying to test or compare a unit I often get unfavourable weather e.g. rain when testing gunpowder. Currently I'm practising with ranged units in the middle of a desert as it is the only way to get dry weather guaranteed.
2.There are a lot of 'rare' weather types I hardly see, such as thunder, blizzards, fog, and sandstorms. Not only are these the coolest battle types (Thunderstorm battles are amazing ) they are also some of the hardest to fight effectively in. If you could choose to fight in them you would be able to practise, as well as seeing more of them.
3.Simple clear days with no rain are one of the rarer types of weather. At the same time they are the best for practising simple army manoeuvres. They are also the best when you just want to send 16 units of chivalric knights to slaughter 16 units of peasants for fun
4. I'm sure the multiplayer community would also be interested in this feature. It would be very handy for tournaments and the like, as well as providing a level playing field or more of a challenge depending on what's chosen.
5.Is it just me or does it rain a lot in the TW world? About two out of every three battles I fight are in the rain. This does get tedious and the only sure fire way to get dry weather is to fight in a desert. (Not much fun with heavily armoured catholic armies) I see more than enough rain in the real world
6.Choosing different weathers would add some much needed variety to the custom battles.
7. It would get more use out of the AI. For example Shogun's AI was (apparantly, I only saw fog about 8 times) programmed to act differently in fog, however fog was so rare this programming often went to waste.
Maybe I'm the only one interested, I am British and we're famous for our obsession with the weather. However if other people are interested and it's not too hard to implement I'd like to ask CA to put this in RTW. Pretty please with a cherry on top http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
