Lets just say you have a general with the good runner v/v. (not that many of you probably RUN across this 1 lol) Now that vice gives a -3 morale bonus, (hows that a bonus) does that give just that unit the -3 morale or does that unit have to be the general and all units in the battle get the -3 morale effect.

2nd question is on dread. Does the general units dread take effect for the whole battle or does the dread of each single unit effect the unit they are attacking.

Dread, IIRC, does not affect the battlefield at all. It is only useful for repressing the peopel in provinces.

Oaty....

I have your answer, friend. A 'Good Runner' is a catastrophe for the entire army. His reputation for running affects every unit's morale by -3.

On the other hand, were he a mere 'Sybarite' (-2 Valor), only his personal unit loses valor.

I just had a perfect example of this. A Byz infantry general, 4 stars, was also a 'Sybarite'. The nominal valor of the unit, out of combat, is two. IN combat, valor dropped to '0' making his morale -4. He was committed to fight and ran, becoming a 'Good Runner'. Now, in battle, his personal unit's morale is -7, all the rest of the army suffering -3, also.

A good trait( or virtue), like 'Fine Leader' adds +4 to the morale of all units. Some, like 'Pride' add to the personal unit's valor, only. For instance, a unit with a 4 star general gets +2 valor for the stars, but, "pride' will add additional valor, for that unit

After a bit, you'll figure out which are personal and which are universal traits. Generally, valor for all comes from a General's stars. Valor, otherwise, is personal unit only (from the unit commander's virtue).

Morale, though, seems to always be universal as it is only affected by the general's valor increases (from stars) or his positive/negative effect through virtue/vice. (I think it's 1 morale for every two valor) I think there may be some vices that affect individual units morale, but, generally speaking, morale is mostly affected by the general's virtue/vice.

Sometimes, I make a truly elite army composed entirely of units whose leader virtue boosts each individual unit. Under a general with lots of stars and 'Fine Leader' or 'Natural Leader', their morale reaches grand heights. They'll fight to the last man.
