The Norman Invasion is a Vikings MOD that covers only the Vikings scenario.

I know a really good mod. Its called the First Crusade and has lots of new factions ( 9 in fact http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) and new units and make some units more historically accurate

Its a great mod, but it needs to be updated with the CTD workaround.

Well, if the CTD problem still occurs in that mod, then it cant be too good??

Is that the one with the faction shield problem. I think it has been fixed in the second download the slightly bigger one
http://www.3ddownloads.com/strateg....DEL.exe (http://www.3ddownloads.com/strategy-gaming/totalwar/MTW/Full_Campaigns/First_Crusade_small_v2_exeDEL.exe)
No, look Lancer the battle CTD problem was not specific to my mod, it exists in all expansion games when a new faction is added. To resolve this issue Lysander worked out that you have to use the new customizable .bifs to override existing facshield ones which were causing the crash, if I was to add this fix in to my mod it would increase my mod by another 8 meg. I assumed people would prefer to do the fix themselves. So I am leaving it to peoples own initiative to fix (see the post on how to do this in the dungeon). So I resent your comments that my mod must be bad becuase of this, Lancer it usually helps if you know what you are talking about before making such comments. Although I can understand your frustration with the lack of complete lack of any explanation about the downloads at the .org and 3d. Its not a good system when the title is the only clue as to what it is you are downloading.

Grell,
Did you notice the "??". The comment was meant as a question. You know I like you, and your mods, dont ruin it with an attitude that is not like this forum. Nobody has ever been as rude as you have right now to me. And I havn't really witnessed anything like it either. You need to check your resources when you go accusing me of not knowing what I am talking about, I am a Java Certified Programmer, with more languages under my sleeve than you have heard of, I am sure, so dont go talking about something you dont know about either. You have ruined my experience with this forum, and your mods. My only point to this post was to understand what the mods did, I only wanted to download new mods, you must have been having a bad day, because you took it way out of context.
I hope anybody reading this understands my frustration with what Grell typed. Very rude, and unlike him.
And another thing, I never said your mod was bad, I asked if it was that good, and look here
Good Day Sir.

ShadesPanther,
Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful. Thats all I needed. Did the modder fix this problem himself, or just expect the players to fix the CTD problem? Just wondering since I was told that it is normal that the modder just make the players update.

It never crashed on me and i played it quite alot. It has a very different style of play and feels like a new game. I never had problems with it and i highly recommend it i give it 5 stars ***** http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
its always good if your playing with mods to hve a full copy of mtw on your HD drive so you can erase it and move on http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

so which one do I download, there is like three Crusade files for some reason.
OK sorry Lancer I always thought you were a decent chap and was suprised and pissed off to see you saying that my mod couldnt be very good for a reason which I feel is unfounded. Being a dungeon reader and a progammer and all surely you were aware that the CTD problem was not something specific to my mod. I spend a lot of time modding and I am sure you can understand me getting sensitive to criticism which is groundless. No hard feelings I hope (didnt think my post was all that offensive) also hope that I havent "ruined your experience of these forums".
My mod if Called First_Crusade, I will upload a re-edited crusaderunitprod.txt file with the CTD fix implemented if people want, but is it really necessary for me to uplaod an 8 meg renaming of existing men.bif texture files which everyone already has in their MTW files?
Grell,
could you write a simple batch file to do the renaming?
this would save people an awful lot of time and confusion,
My advice would be to get people to put the batch file in the same directory as the executable and run it from there, that would save having to place an 8meg download
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
err... write a simple batch file? I am not a progammer and as Lancer points out I wont "go talking about something I know nothing about". http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Look Lancer lets bury the hatchet, since your a progammer maybe you could help me / tell me how to create this batch file thingo Barroca is talking about, I have all the files, etc and it works 100% OK on my comp with no battle CTDs, but like I said it seems pointless to make an 8meg downlaod of files which are already on everyones computer and just need to be renamed.

Request to Forum Moderators:
Perhaps it's a idea to make a sticky thread where all modders post a short description of their mod with perhaps two or three screenshots. They edit their posts with possible bugs/fixes. This will save alot of trouble going through the download process with 3D downloads.
If we then all use a similar layout, it will be very easy for people to look through all the different mods, perhaps something like this:
Middle Earth: Total War - First BETA release
This mod contains the first installment of the Lord of the Rings mod. It will let you play the Rohan and Isengard armies.
Features:
- 21 original units and with new graphics
- New maps reflecting the land of Isengard and Rohan.
- Historical campaign about the conflicts between the Isengarders and the Rohirrim.
Screenshots:
http://chronicles.metw.net/images/screenshots/screenshot_isengard_wargs_03.jpg
Download:
not available yet
Website:
ME:TW Developer forum (http://www.leftzed.com/lotr/)
Bugs and fixes:
- none so far
Also, before you write a batchfile to copy and rename bif folders (and contents) has anyone tested Ithaskars facshield theory?
Quote[/b] ]...I suspect that if you tried making new files in the facshields folder then they woulcd work too, so long as you call them the name you defined the faction as it might work too, ie FN_Free21 or FN_Free01 if you didn't change this.full text is here
Ith's facshield theory in adding new factions thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=6671;st=175;r=1;&#entry125036)
if Ith's theory works would it be simpler to create the facshields for the new factions?

Hey Grell, Hatchet in the dirt. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I was fully aware that the CTD problem wasn't just in your mod. So what was ShadesPanther talking about when he said the mod was really awesome, 5 stars? Which mod of your was he talking about, because I would like to download it. I am done making my own mods, I am in an Advanced Programming using Java course right now, in my extended education program, and it is taking up all my time, and energy. Probably why I am so frustrated.

the first crusade
you can be the Cumans http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif or the pagan Baltic states http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif or the heretic Lithuanians along with the norman sciclians or the alter ego turks (i cant remember name http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif ). The game is more challenging with revolts happening easier but the AI does well in keeping loyalty unlike me sometimes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that all versions of the First Crusade have the CTD problem. I remember reading that Grell said that he wasn't going to do an update, that the users would need to do it themselves as the file would be too large.
Personally, I think most people would be willing to d/l a large file if it was the *complete & Fixed* version.

THANK YOU Thats all I needed to see. I wont download any of them now. I agree that if the modder added the completed file, that people would download it.
Why doesn't Grell send only the 8 mg file to the org and let people just implement it into there game files?
ShadesPanther
07-22-2003, 18:33
Well there is a reason. He needs a moderator to upload it because it won't upload Win RAR for some reason
