I tried to edit crusader_prod11.txt(sp?) to let the Turks get arbalesters and to give longbowmen more ammo, but everytime i start a game i get "error: line 126 column 2 undefine". This is how i did it, i opened it w/ excel, then went to the faction available cell and added ",Turks" to the list of factions. For longbow, i went to the cell of the unit descriptions and changed the ammo from 28 to 38. I used the same method to edit projectilestats.txt w/ no problems. I would just download the gnome, editor, but stupid 3ddownloads.com is down right now. Any one can help? Thanks a lot.

its FN_TURKISH
ie. "FN_ALMOHAD, FN_EGYPTIAN, FN_TURKISH" or something like that

as for ammo well i just change the number 28 to 90 and it works fine for me.

The best bet is to download the Genome editor in the .org downloads(and no i dont have a link but its there somewhere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif )

really? all the other values seem to be w/o the FN. Anyways, even w/o editing the factions, editing the longbow ammo only, it seems to crash. But 3ddownloads seem to work now, for some reason, they do not work late at night, so i will download the gnome editor.

hmm i dunno in mine for unitprod it says FN_TURKISH.
yeah for some reason the whole org was down last night then it surprisingly worked agin and the same happened to 3d downloads today

just adding a space or tab in the wrong place can send an entire column of data into the next column in notebook, and that of course crashes the game, just use gnome much easier.

Copy this over every "factions" in the Arbalester line.

"FN_SPANISH,FN_ARAGONESE,FN_BURGUNDIAN,FN_ALMOHAD,FN_BYZANTINE,FN_DANISH,FN_EGYPTIAN,FN_EN

GLISH,FN_FRENCH,FN_GERMAN_HRE,FN_ITALIAN,FN_POLISH,FN_RUSSIAN,FN_HUNGARIAN,FN_NOVGOROD,FN_

PAPIST,FN_SICILIAN,FN_SWISS,FN_TURKISH"

The error in X column Y row, it's just a problem with the tabs. And the best you can do when this happens is,

regretfully, he can no longer be all... i'm sorry, may be too much MTW. The best you can do when this happens is erasing the file and starting again. But I highly recommend (and many others) get The Magnificent Gnome Editor.

Yep, same thing happened to me. I was fiddling in the crusader.txt of Wes W medmod 1.85. I changed a few things on four or five units (price, unit buildings, etc.) so I don't know which thing resulted in the "unknown unit, error line 70, etc.). When I look at line 70 its the same old chiv sargeant which I didn't touch - but before it is Ital lt. inf, and after is order spearmen which I did mess with.
After studying the spacing I still have no idea what I did wrong.

Also that FN_France etc. confused me at first but you guys are right thats in VI.

I have 1.1 installed with medmod 1.85

If I copied the info again from another crusader.txt you sure it would plop into the right columns? Because I tried that with the chiv sarg, and got the same message.

Best help I can offer is to mail it to me (your .txt file) and I can take a look and sort it for you?

Thanks Liam,
I just recopied the Swabian sw into the cr text. I have all the other info copied (huscarles, lbm, unit icons etc.) I had reinstalled wes mod 1.85 because I had messed it up. Just trying to put this unit into 1.1 with wes 1.85 mod. I noticed that whenever a region bonus was changed there would always be an error.
Is it possible to switch swabia bonus from FMAA and give it to swab sw, and give the FMAA to say Sweden? (It's either sweden, volhynia, or wallachia they are the only ones without any unit bonus)
I mailed you but was unable to attach the txt.,unless you want me to mail your regular email

When you saved the file from excel , did you save it as
text (tad deliminated)?

I presume you did but I have to ask . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well that was not the question . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I asked if you saved it as
Text (Tad deliminated) .

Not .txt

as that could be unicode text (.txt), text (ms dos)(.txt),
or Text (Tad deliminated)(.txt)

It must be Text (Tad deliminated)(.txt)
to work with the game .

That's why I ask.

I'm not sure, I usually just copy the crusader 11 text and stick it in another folder(after I've made changes). How do I find out if it is tab deliminated?(or one of the other ones)

The first implies you used excel.

The second implies you used wordpad/notepad.

If you use excel and you wish to saav as a text that will work with the game it must be the (tab deliminated)

It's an option in the save as .

If you just edited the text file then you just have
to save it as is.

I use the CA excel production files .
You can get them in the members file section
under TOOLS

MTW_Prod_Files (VI CA Excel)
Vikings_Prod_files (VI CA Excel

If your not into excel then get Gnome_UnitBuildProj
it seems easier to deal with .

I've used excel , Gnome and straight notepad.

Sometimes opening modded units/build files in excel then saving as tab delimited without doing anything except saving the file you can still get errors and a failure for mtw to load. I presume this is because the tab delimited file has some errors which are tolerant to mtw unless you save the file in excel. Gnome generally won't also open these files.

Finding the errors in the modded files so they work properly in excel/gnome is a pain and I've resorted to just finding the change needed and doing it in notepad.
