View Full Version : Running kings???
I just experienced something really depressing, had only happened to me one time earlier.
My king, me, my role, flew without me pressing the rout button.
I mean, the king is my role, i am supposed to have 100% control. When I don't want to be a coward and flee i don't flee. Hope they fix this with a patch.
Yes but your King is not inhuman. All have morale, and if it drops too much, even the bravest run back to mom.

yup, no bug u just couldnt apparently win and your king would rather be marked a coward than die.
what if he wanted to die... i tought i decided everything the king did, so i tought i decided if the king wanted to die... hope they fix this for rome at least, make the king more personal in your control.
the king is not you exactly, the king is a unit like any other, more important but still somewhat independent (or as independent as any of your units are - dance my puppets dance Muhahahahahahahaha )

Ya, I mean there is nothing to fix really.
It would be cool to have full control in RTW but in MTW they just have it programmed this way.
Part of the fun though is dealing with the elements of battle that are not directly in your control. Such as fatigue, morale, and the mens fighting ability.
I don't think we would get the same level of challenge if we had Starcraft or C&C style control over our men, or horses for that matter.

Exactly, and thats what makes the Warcraft, C&C games tedious for me now... They just don't have the same staying power that TW does.
As stated before, the king is a unit like any other, and plays by the same rules as all the other units. If negative morale modifiers add up sufficiently, he will run. He won't run as quickly as a peasant, especially since he is a general and if he has many stars, but he will if the situation is right. He will also not die as easily, but he will die eventually. If that bothers you so much, uncheck the morale in the options screen, and then units in general won't run.
Did you check what vices the King may have had? Did he have some negative morale or command vices. What kinds of vices and virtues and attributes did the enemy general have - high dread and hig command?
I shall pose a philosopical question for you to ponder:
If we are the exact role of the King, wouldn't we die when he died? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I suppose you can't be the king. You must be his main advisor (the power behind the throne) as you can change sides in civil wars.
Notice the money follows you though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I was just going to say that...
You are the ulitmate Power behind the throne type in this game...
The game isn't based on a role playing concept, although some players try to add role playing elements. Hence, you aren't anybody.

Vanya does not understand why folks here don't get this. So, Vanya will explain the genius of this feature.
A king is a sap who was born to a family of kings. He never earned his position, he got it by birth. So, he's a selfish, egotistical, authoritarian brat. And as such, his life is nothing but a big party with all people tending to his needs and whims.
Why then, would you expect a person like this to go out amongst the element and risk potentially ending his parade by eating an arrow or riding a spear? Fuhgettabatit A king would never do that He'd give an order to his generals and let them go out and risk limb and life in the name of the king. He would send out his brothers... even his mama But a king would never lift a weapon unless he was cornered like a rat Any combat bring the risk of death
This is why Vanya typically does not hang heads of kings on His necklace. Vanya finds them to be "unchallenging"... like shooting fish in a barrel.
Vanya puts their heads over the fireplace though. Right next to the stuffed moose head and mouse head trophies.
