I recently sold a brand new sealed copy (purchased at Software Etc) to someone, and now they write me with this today:

We received the software this morning and tried to install it. There was no registration number on the cd case to load Shogun. Do you have one?

What do I tell them? Shouldn't the number be on there? It was from the EA Classics packaging.

Thanks for any help

i may have this wrong; it's been a long while since i installed shogun, but with no online server any more, i dont think you need a cd key. wasnt the cd key only for registering and playing online?

also, have them look inside the case or in the manual. i see to recall that not all the cd keys were on the backside of the jewel case.

Welcome to the Org derek. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Heed Kraellin's advice. If that fails, contact EA support and simply ask them where the CD key can be found in the EA Classic packaging of STW.

I had the exact same problem with a copy of Shogun that I bought from Game.

The case contained no CD key number, and since it was a classics case it also did not come with a manual.

It is imposible to install the game without the CD key as it will not start to install without it.

I was fortunate as i was able to return the game to the shop and get a replacement which did have a CD key.

I don't know what you will be able to do about this, sorry.

The copy of STW I bought recently as the clasic knockdown price version had the CD key on the back of the case lower right hand corner i think. It did come with a few bits of paper in the case as well but I remember hunting for it and it was only that I knew what the key should look like did I find it in small writing.

If you need it to install the game it may be a problem but apart from this it is to be honest of no use what so ever unless you want to register you own it for technical support from EA but as this is a limited thing Id suggest they use the Totalwar comunity forums for that. (espicialy as the people are so helpful and friendly and will actualy care about helping you and not give you standard messages that are of no use what so ever)
To date I still have not seen or heard from anyone who has managed to get on the STW original server. I should also mension that the fix of changing the address the program uses to access the server to the one for STW WE/MI does not seem to work as it wants a CD key for WE or MI.

I gave my copy of STW away to a friend who does not have a net connection otherwise I would check exactly where the CD key was for you.

Good luck in sorting it out.
Edit to add bit about server

i have not tested this,
but will fakeserver work with the original version of Shogun?
This would allow like minded players who only have Shogun Original to play against each other at least http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

providing fake server works with Shogun Original that is...

Oh and I just remebered, my CD key was not actualt on the Jewel case, but stuck in the inside behind the CD's if that helps.
