View Full Version : Why can't I invade Ireland?
I am trying to get to Ireland from England and I have ships on both sides of Ireland so it is surrounded. I cannot drop emmisaries or armies in Ireland and I cannot figure out why. The armies are in a territory with a port so what am I doing wrong? The only thing I can think of is that Ireland has no port so I can't go there, but hey that never stopped the English from invading before

If you are at war with England and they have ships in the same waterways as you thats why...sink em all lol. Also you have to have a chain like of ships from the port province with ur troops to Ireland and all the waterways there must turn green when you hit "v".
Hope that helped.
any enemy ships (from whatever nations you are currently at war with) that are in waters seperating your army from your intended target WILL block their passage.
as MiniKiller said press "v" if any sector of the sea turns red between you and your target, you will need to destroy the enemy ships there.
KILL THEM ALL I SAY, KILL THEM ALL http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Also if you ar neutral with them the fleets will never engage and you actually have to drop your ship(s) on theirs to start the war and once there fleet is destroyed you then have free passage to invade

I also wanted to add that I found out that once you get to Ireland and take out the Irish your stuck there until you build a port there. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thats intersting, even if you are at war with a nation and they control the seas you should still be able to transport spies, assasins, emissaries...etc

Not exactly. An agent can only move overseas from one province to another if both provinces has a port. This applies whether or not a province is neutral, enemy or your own.

The manual states that agents move with the game's inherent merchant shipping to move around.
You can also think abut it like this: Emissaries sail under a diplomatic flag of truce, it would be bad manners (even in medieval times) to kill him.
Spies and assassins are supposed to sneak in.
Religious agents is more or less the same as with emissaries.
War or peace is irrelevant in this instant. You can't move agents to ireland, since ireland doesn't have a port. Armies can move to ireland, and then sea-control becomes relevant.
