The first pic looks good does anybody know waht team the guys are on the left?

Looks very impressive. Specially the first one. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
It would help a lot if they could throw in some face variety. Thanks for posting.

iirc, the Egytians covered the tip of their pyramids in gold (maybe silver), so they would reflect the sun
something else i noticed: all the horseback riders are wielding spears, except 1 of them, he has a sword

The sword guy must be the leader of the unit...

I think those are the Ptolemys on the left in the first pic and on the bottom in the second pic.
Argh, can't remember what that symbol is called but I believe it originates from ancient egypt.
Ankh
You're welcome. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The lighting is what makes the first pic so good, a nice dusk, or perhaps a sandstorm has covered the sun?
As to the pyramids, they were capped with limestone covered in gold. Of course the gold was removed as quickly as people could get up the side of the pyramid http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif I guess the pyramids will be one of the "Wonders" in the game.
Yeah those horses in the second picture look kinda odd all boxed up like that. I'm sure CA will add a "scatter" effect like they did for MTW so that all the horses aren't in unison.
In any case it looks like someone was foolish enough to send horses head on against spearmen...twice...tsk tsk CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The Egyptians look suspiciously Pharaonic. Not too bad though, at least they're not wielding kopeshes.
Great pics I want more
What is the deal with those Egyptian spearmen in the second picture? Those goofy hats look like they belong to middle to late dynasty Egyptian royalty or officials, not Ptolemaic spearman I thought the Ptolemaic military of this period was thoroughly Hellenized? I keep thinking Yul Brenner's going to ride into frame on a gilded chariot and chase Chuck Heston all the way to the Red Sea
Calling all military history and regional experts... Hakonarson, Faisal, anyone have an answer???

They should be Hellenized, at least if this was a hidtorical simulation, but it's not. I'd prefer a more accurate depiction, but i'm an Ancient Historian, so i would. I'm not the core market of the game, and the market wants to see Egyptians that it can identify with. Hopefully there will be some middle ground and we won't see Yul Brenner. The beards are silly, and the hats are from the wrong period, but to the man in the street they scream Egypt and they've got the cool factor. CA need to shift the game from the shelves. Most ancient armies fought in tunics with little or no armour. They didn't look particularly different to each other but that's useless for making a marketing impact. You want to try telling the marketing guys they have to shift a game where everyone wears cream or rusty brown linien tunics?
CA say they're releasing mod tools. That's great, so hopefully we'll be able to edit the troops so that they look like their historical equivalents and those of us who can't cope with hte skins can have historical ones pretty sharpish.

The third pic is AWESOME, looks very impressive. I agree on the attack of the clones in the 1st one. They should somehow randomize faces or something cause this looks a bit weird... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Excellent screens... I believe those pyramids were around long before the scope of RTW, so they are probably not available to build.
As to historical accuracy, the Egyptian battlecry will be "Im..ho..tep.......Im..ho..tep......."

I spend more time pouring over history and archeology than playing this game and appreciate more historical accuracy. This game is too important to feed the market.
However,i think the clones are ok.Most of the time in battle is spent moving around and at a height where this wont even be noticed. These are close screenies. Thanks for them.

Attack of the Clones http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Hey, what about they give them different face expressions, muscles, weapon breakdown (ie. little "bites" on the swords), rust, moving eyes, maybe all will have different uniform (wearing down, etc.), also let's see sweat and....Anyone has a 15 Ghz processor? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif Get real ppl The thing it is now, looks really tough for most computers ppl have...

Amen to all that.
I didnt notice it at first, but after reading a thread over at .com, i can see the horses look a bit dumb... far too long necks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Nice screenies CA, thanks

the pics are nice but it's gonna be hard to command a battle if you can't see the whole map - which means zooming out alot which means most of the time these awesome graphics will go to waste.
still, these are pretty impressive screenshots

The pictures did look great.
Maybe the cavalry was coming down the hill to draw the infantry line forward. The hills could easily have concealed a line of shock troops. The infantry already skirmashing could have helped draw the infantry line into position to be charged from a hill.
Or they may simply have been testing units against each other "in game"
My only historical complaint, should the pyryamids at least be covered in white limestone? or "snow" as someone called it.
Love to see a restored Sphinx. Hair, beard, and nose intact.

I hope they implement bloody good LODs otherwise frame rate will got to shite when you zoom out giving the higher end pcs a massive advantage over the poor old ones.

Its possible the Egyptian army was "egyptian"and not hellenic, also its pretty hard to alwats get hellenic style units, especially since the sucessor kingdoms were'nt freindly to each other.also take note, these could be the levies the ptolemys used to fight whatever army invaded them(in this case the romans). Also its possible that you ain't only playing the ptolmeis,or its a marketing step CA took.anyways the 3 pics look great and i don't care if they were hellenised or egyptianised or whatever.

In the first pic the shields the Egyptians use look more like pieces of paper than actual wooden shields.

Wow... just noticed something... You see that pic where the horsemen are engaged with the spearmen? The horsemen who have yet to make contact but are about to's horses are rearing up on their hind legs as if unwiling to run into the wall of spears KOOLNESS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
On the first SS, with the horse rising on it's hind legs, the guy is just sitting there, straight... He should be leaning forward so as not to fall off http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Well, he's good. Come on people, it's a game after all.
I think the pyramid faces are covered with limestone so it will reflect the sun and show as bright white. I am not sure what it would look like around the time of the Romans, after all, it is already some millenia old even at that time.
In time, the smooth limestone face washed away or used to build local mosques/temples, leaving the current brown/sand color.
Were they covered with silver/gold tips? Like nipples? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Anywho, yeah the pyramids cap stone was covered in gold. Quite predictably this was a sign for everyone that said "FREE GOLD" The Egyptian might have been vain but common sense hadn't been invented yet http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
