View Full Version : When are building funds checked?

All right - I've searched, but there are too many possible ways to search for this to cover them all. At any rate, I gave up and decided to ask for more help.

Does anyone know how funds are processed at the end/beginning of a turn? I'm currently almost broke as the English in about 1110. On the other hand, I own all of France and Aragon as well, so I don't feel too bad. So, when I end a turn, I (of course) get the "insufficient funds" message at the start of the next turn. However, I've noticed that when I actually start the next turn, there is usually about 2000 florins in my treasury - which is more than enough to build anything I'm currently working on at this stage. This means I've got buildings sitting in queue in every province with the necessary funds sitting in my account. Why don't they start up?

Obviously, there is something in the way the game processes your funds during the turnover between years. Does anyone know what order things are done in? One way that (might) lead to this happening is:
1. Pay all troops
2. Start up buildings/new troops
3. Collect taxes

Sorry to spam the board with my questions - I'm a programmer though, so I like to know how things work.

Thanks for any help

Your income doesn't count as spending money until the next turn, that's why you have 2000 florins sat there each turn doing nothing. I think the priority for money is
1.Pay upkeeps
2.Pay for new buildings
3.Pay for new troops
4.Taxes arrive at the treasury

It's been a while since I had this problem (Gotta love Viking raids )so I can't remember exactly whether units or buildings come first. After a 'bankrupt' turn anything that was not completed will remain in the building queue. They will try to build it the next turn. You should try to cut down on your spending per turn (The amount that goes on new troops/buildings) and try to save a little after each turn to build your bank up again. Try building more mines etc for a few years, they're cheap, fast and will net you more florins. If you need troops in a hurry there are few things worse than not being able to build them or being unsure which ones will get built because you are out of cash.

Congratulations on squashing the French Don't worry about asking questions, the ones you ask are quite sensible (unlike 'Do I have to put the CD in to install the game?' ) Most of us used to have the same problems you are having when we were new to MTW.

Thanks for the quick and informative (as usual) response I thought it had to be something like that... I'm up to 1122 now and my treasury is starting to recover - thanks mainly to Flanders and Aragon.

By the way - I never tried the FBE in Thief. Are they any good? I really like that game as well - I'm trying a couple of the fan modules for T2 now..

Thanks again.

No problem, I'm happy to help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

The frogbeast eggs weren't exactly good, more like memorable. You can use them to kill on levels and difficulties where you aren't allowed to because it's the frog that strikes the killing blow. Watching a giant mech get killed by a cute little frog is very funny. On rare occasions (one in a million type rare) the frog would spawn with invulnerability The guards would run around chasing it for hours. I've not tried any of the fan levels, I'm too busy try to actually finish the two games. I've had them since release but everytime I get near the end I get a load of work to do so I have to stop. Now I've got plenty of time but it's too sunny, I can't see even with the curtains drawn there's a lot of glare. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
