hiding units

I play as defender and wants to set up an ambush, trying to hide a horse unit with 20 men in it.

on my right side i have real good place to do that, cause its mostly coverd with wood, but no where in that forest where i put my horse unit it becomes concealled. so i put the unit just outside the forest cause if enemy go to attack it i dont want it to fight inside the forest.

here comes the weird part, when i set the unit up it becomes concealed. theres no trees infront of the unit only behind it, but its still conceald, and it didnt want to hide inside the forest.

i made some experiment with this. trying to hide a unit with 100 men in forest. a couple of times it was hard to get them concealed, but with the same unit i had no problem hide them where there was only 5 trees.

does anyone have any good anser why it is like this and can someone tell me if i do something wrong when i try to hide units in a big forest but fail to do that.

Sometimes the concealed icon lies to you. Once i put some units in the woods, w/ no concealed icon, but the computer couldnt find me for a while until they probed the woods(they ran around the map for a while).

The concealed icon seems flawed somehow. Sometimes you are supposed to be hidding and the AI will send units straight at you. Ambushing doesn't work all that well versus the AI, or skilled human players.

ok, here is another one, im playing as english, all is going well my empire grows, slow, but it grow.

1200 all my ally start attacking each other so i end up with only a few among, denmark and italy. First Italy start sinking my ships and then launch attacks on my lands. Thats no problem cause i have several other ships and 1000s of men just waiting for war. so i take back what is mine.

few years later the danes start sinking my ships, still no problems cause i have strongest fleet so i get back on them taking denmark and the land south of it.

then next turn the pope says im excomunicated, without any warning, the problem isnt that i got excom.. i know i used more violence then needed to push back the invaders, what disturbs me is that i never got a warning. is this another thing that doesnt work well in the game??
