hi

i've been trying to create a new faction (Portuguese) as FN_FREE01 in MTW:VI.

Based on what i had done in MTW 1.1 and what i've been reading here i set everything right, and all was going smooth as silk when i noticed that one of the starting units was a Highlander Clansmen.
What?? - i said to myself. I didn't set that up How did it go there??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

That unit is always there, and that's always the royal unit, whether i add more starting units or remove them all.

Anyone had this problem too??? Help, please

Go into the crusader unit file, find the unit you want for your factions royal unit. Find say, early royal knights and on the second line you should see a list of faction names. The first of these lists is the factions royal unit, the second list shows what faction can train the unit. Add on FN_FREE01 to the first list and that should set you straight.

yeah, if you didn't specify a royal unit for your new faction it automatically selects the first unit in the list, which is always highland clansmen - at the top of the unitprod list

Gnome editor is the best for modding the unit prod

a pleasure to be of service, tell us how you get on, if the mod is good and works, i'd be interested in downloading it, my one attempt at using the fn_free slots failed miserably, and i've sort of given up for the time being, (i think i know what i did wrong now though&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
besides the portuguese really deserve to be in the game, i'd be a pleasure to play a mod designed by an expert on portugal (i.e. a portuguese person - you&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
