this may be a dumb question but I dont think it has been addressed:

Are you only able to build a metalsmith in a provence with metal deposits? Are there factional limitations?

Actually now I think about it this concept could be expanded in RTW to make certain provences strategically appealling by increasing the types of resources etc and their effect on the tech tree. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

aren't certain provinces appealing now because of resources? Certainly the provinces with Iron are very useful, especially if like in Spain they are also on the ocean.

But provinces like Venice, Flanders and Antioch are desirable for their trade goods = mazoola in the bank.

In any case the moral of this story is to take over spain for they are rich in the hard dark metal known as iron

What buidings are prereqs for metalsmiths? I just buld tons of buildings till it allows me to build 1 .... I know bad strategy.

The pre-req's are an armourer and a castle.

the games says u can only build metalsmiths in prvences that have iron deposits but iv built them in all provences with castels and such even without it saying iron deposits...i think if u have a steady trade going u can build them anywhere

No way. You can build armorers and swordsmiths in any province, but only in iron producing provinces can you build the metalsmith. Important places to own.

Completely agree. Unless you use the iron cheat or mod the game, there's no way you can build a metalsmith in prov. without iron.
