1. As l have said in the Epic battle of Soly l would like a new patch to allow you to pass your troops through friendly land. An emmisary could ask permition. He would allow you to pass or not from his land. Also he would make a plan of where your troops will pass. How about it?

This is what the "Port Bug" is for http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

..

But really, that would be a great feature, probably a TW2 possibility, but it would be too big a change to make for Shogun.

What is the port bug?

I was playing last night, taken over half of Japan, and suddenly a nearby clan decides to attack me, commencing with moving a small force to a port in my rear (oo-err).

But I can't seem to move to enemy ports. What's the deal?

it is debated whether this was originally a bug or a feature, after Mongol Invasion it became a feature anyway.

Put your emissary in the enemy port. Move your army there the next turn. Emissaries, ninjas, shinobi, priests, can all move into enemy ports without problems. They have to sit there for a turn and then you just invade like normal from across the map. the AI never seems to really prepare for this though and I personally have never been attacked from the rear in such a manner.

Yeah, yeah, port invasion is a "feature" now.

However, AIs, which basically only act out of randomness, seldom conduct it in a sensible way.

For one, the invasion troops have to come from a province from a port to begin with.

For two, the target province has to have a port to end up with.

And lastly, a special unit has to be moved into and survive one turn in the target province.

Which I have seen it happened a couple of times, I don't think it's really FAIR for the human player to exploit this "feature". For it'll make the game too easy, considering that the expert level is already a breese through as the way it is.

Thanks. And if I'm not mistaken, watch towers and ninjas on counter-spying missions help to route out enemy spies that I can't see (he definitely didn't have a shinobi I could see there).

It made me feel vulnerable to think that an enemy force could land anywhere behind me and go on a rampage across largely unguarded territory while I play catch up.

To defend against AI's port invasion is ridiculously easy.

1) Kill the special units so that port invasion won't occur

First of all, border forts on coastal provinces. An extra (or two) shinobi to help boosting up loyalty as well as counterspying.

This will have taken care of most of the enemy shinobi and ninjas. Leaving only those pesty priests and/or embassies.

Make sure that you have several decent ninjas patroling the coast.

Should any of those AI's special units appear, just move your ninja(s) into that province and assassinate.

2) Keep a defensive army on reserve.

Basically you want to have a reserve army (heavy on missle troops) that can be mobiled just in case.

With port connecting your provinces, it should be really really easy. That is, suppose an enemy special unit appear in your province, then while sendinding your own ninja/geisha for assasination, move that defensive army of yours into that province.

3) Combine 1 and 2, you can cover your homebase with just a reserve army and several ninjas. Easy, huh?

I would like to see this in TW2. It also adds to the deplomacy of the game.

GAH! Isn't there the concept of a navy in TW2? Maybe you can stuff your men in a wooden trireme and paddle them to shore where ever you want... Otherwise, how can the silly english kinigits make it all the way to Palestine for their jihad... er... crusade? Surely, all of Europe was not made England historically...
