I am playing the English and started my first campaign in the early period. I have hired Longbow Mercenaries, and fought them but yet I cant create them. I see on the unit tree that I cant create them except in the high period. So will the game eventually progress to the High Period or am I forever stuck in the early period?

Also what is the point to allies? They do not help each other out when one or the other is invaded. I have attacked others and their allies did not help nor did mine help when I was attacked. The only thing I have seen was when I broke the French seige of a German castle (i was allied with the germans)

How can I catch assassins or spys in my province?

High Period will begin at 1205. So you will have to wait a little. Allies? No point at all.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Border Forts will catch spys and assasin. Own spy in province also helps to catch enemys.

Hope this help

It does help thanks...and I just read the new player guide and had all my quiestions answered.

I spent too much time making custom battles when this first came out to even learn the campaign.

Allies? No point at all..

I do believe it makes an acceptance of marriage easier but can't say for sure as everyone has different experiences in the game

I have had allies of mine aid me in battles. I took a province from the Egyptians with a Crusade. It was bordered by the Byz whom I was allied with. The Egyptians counter attacked with about 2k soldiers. I only had my small army left, and the Byzantines sent a pretty large force (about 1.2k) to help me out. Its impossible for you to predict and aid your allies in the first battle, only the AI can do that, but you can break sieges, like you said already. I have had many marriage proposals turned down by some of my closest allies, so I don't think they depend too much on previous alliances, and if they do then its not much.
